Mason Aucoin of Luling won first place in the 8-and 9-year-olds division of the Gatorade NFL Punt, Pass and Kick team championships held earlier in the football season during the Saints-Redskins game in the Superdome.

Player of the Week
This week's Off to College and Beyond Player of the Week is Xavier guard and DHS grad Mark Stewart who knocked down 13 three-pointers in the Gold Rush's two victories this past week. He led the team with 28 points (7 of his scores three-pointers) to go along with 2 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal in the teams' victory over Spring Hill last Thursday. He also had 18 points (all of them on 6 three-pointers), 2 assists, a rebounds and a steal in the team's victory over Loyola on Saturday.

Even with the upsets that showed up during “bowl season,” Virginia Nicholas of Hahnville correctly predicted 12 winners out of the 15 bowl games played to win the final version of the St. Charles Herald-Guide's Football Contest '06. Virginia also found the hidden fleur de lis to win a total of $60.

You have an argument if you say that Nick Saban's return to college football as the coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide brands him as a "liar" or even "job jumper". In the same breath you have to say "oh boy" - the Tide just became a formidable opponent in the SEC overnight.

The New York Giants struck quickly as they scored on a 4-play, 67 yard drive due to an Eli Manning 55-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Plaxico Burress. But that was about all the offensive firepower they were able to muster against a stingy Saints defense last Sunday.
