| Bridge Run will be bigger, better this year March 31, 2012 at 8:55 am LULING/DESTREHAN - The United Way of St. Charles is hosting its 16th annual 5K Bridge Run with the addition of a 10K run, on March 31. The 10K race starts at 8:15 a.m. on the levee path in St. Rose and crosses the Hale Boggs Bridge to the West Bank Bridge Park in Luling. The 5K starts at 8:30 a.m. at the East Bank Bridge Park in Destrehan. Pre-registration is available for $25 per person until March 30. On race day, registration is $30 per person. | St. Charles Catholic run in memory of Marie Ory Dupont March 31, 2012 at 8:54 am LAPLACE - The twelfth annual FCA “Run for the Son” 5K race and one mile fun run/walk will be held Saturday March 31, 2012 at St. Charles Catholic High School. The one mile fun run/walk will begin at 8 a.m. and the 5K race will follow at approximately 8:30 a.m. This year’s race will be dedicated to the memory of Marie Ory Dupont (Class of 2000) who unexpectedly passed away in October. Race registration forms are available at www.stcharlescatholic.org and www.runnotc.org. Entry fees are $15 for adults, $12 for college and high school students and $10 for youth (elementary school and younger). Runners and walkers can submit a $10 no t-shirt entry the day of the race. |

| VFD hosts teen dance March 31, 2012 at 8:54 am DES ALLEMANDS - The Des Allemands Volunteer Fire Department will host a teen dance on March 31 from 7-11 p.m. for ages 11-16 years old. Entry is $5 and concessions will be sold. DJ Magic will provide entertainment. |

| HHS presents “To Kill a Mockingbird” March 29, 2012 at 8:54 am BOUTTE - The Hahnville High School Talented Theatre program will stage its final production of the year, “To Kill a Mockingbird,” on March 29 and 30 at 6 p.m. in the school’s auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults and may be purchased at the door. |

| Garden Ramble a good opportunity for nature lovers March 25, 2012 at 9:49 am AMA/WAGGAMAN - Take a walk on the wild side with award-winning master gardeners during the River Road Garden Ramble tour on March 25 from noon-4 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the St. Mark chapter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. A variety of garden styles will include: an award-winning Master Gardener’s retreat with a large pond for wildlife, a walk on the wild side garden including woods and pasture with wildflowers and a display of antique games, a garden filled with vegetable beds, with a free potted plant giveaway while supplies last, and a garden with a variety of plants and a potting shed. The tour can be started at either 10391 River Road in Ama or 9555 River Road in Waggaman. Pass along plants and cuttings will be sold. Admission is $10 per person, with kids 15 and younger for free. | Annual chance to help clean up parish March 24, 2012 at 9:48 am St. Charles Parish will once again go green on March 24 with the 4th Annual Trash Bash, a litter clean-up and recycling awareness event to be held from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Those interested may sign up as team captains or individuals at www.scptrashbash.org or by calling (985)331-8604. All equipment will be provided and service hour verification certificates will be available. A culminating celebration will kick off at 11:30 a.m. at the East Bank Bridge Park in Destrehan. Volunteers and the community are invited to enjoy free food, music and information about local recycling efforts. |

| St. Charles Has Talent Show auditions March 20, 2012 at 10:36 am Register now for 3rd annual Are you a natural singer, dancer, actor or actress, or musician? Do you have an outstanding talent that you want to share with the community? Then try out for the St. Charles Parish Talent Show! Auditions for the 3rd annual St. Charles Has Talent Show will be held beginning at 5 p.m. March 20 and March 22 at the LSU AgCenter (4-H) office, 1313 Paul Maillard Road, Suite E in Luling. All students in St. Charles Parish kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible to audition. There is a $5 fee per act to audition. Participants must call the 4-H Office at (985)785-4473 by March 19 to schedule an audition date and time. |

| St. Rose church hosts revival meetings March 18, 2012 at 9:48 am ST. ROSE - The First Baptist Church of St. Rose will host Spring Revival Meetings this month with Rev. Jerry Bass of Harahan and music by Rev. Ronnie Cottingham of Lucedale. Meetings will take place at the church, 627 St. Rose Ave., on March 18 at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. with a potluck at 5 p.m. and March 19-21 at 6 p.m. each evening. |

| Get your handguns ready March 17, 2012 at 10:37 am The St. Charles Sheriff’s Office will allow the general public to use the St. Charles Firing Range to shoot handguns only on March 17. A safety briefing is required and offered on those days at 8 a.m. The range will be open from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Participants must be over 18 years old. | Memorial dedication for students killed in car wreck March 17, 2012 at 10:36 am HOUMA - Family and friends of four teenagers who died in a car accident last year will gather at Vandebilt High School on Saturday to remember their lost loved ones. Gabrielle Hebert, Megan Hitt, T.J. Cantrell and Ian Haydel passed away due to an accident more than a year ago. Now a memorial building with a fountain will be blessed and dedicated to their memories on March 17 at 2 p.m. behind the school. |

| Celebrations mark St. Patrick’s Day in style March 17, 2012 at 9:49 am NEW ORLEANS/METAIRIE - Everyone gets to be Irish for the day on March 17, but the whole weekend will be full of events honoring St. Patrick’s Day – Louisiana style. Start the week off right with a St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Metairie Road, beginning at noon on March 11. On March 15, head to Parasol’s, 2533 Constance St. in New Orleans, for their annual block party from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. When the big day finally arrives, watch the big Irish Channel Parade at 1 p.m. or head to Tracey’s, 2604 Magazine St. in New Orleans, for their St. Paddy’s Day Party beginning at 11 a.m. Those heading downtown for the day will also get a chance to catch the Downtown Irish Club Parade at 6 p.m. On March 18, finish off the weekend with the Louisiana Irish-Italian Parade in Metairie at noon. |

| Calling all teens interested in drafting, construction March 15, 2012 at 9:47 am DESTREHAN - Destrehan High School is hosting a Drafting and Construction Trades Career Awareness event March 15 from 6-8 p.m. for St. Charles Parish Public Schools parents and students in grades 8-12. The purpose of the event is to provide information about high school courses, careers, college, and training programs. The first 75 students will receive a “goody” bag. Little more than a week after officials from 14 parishes took a trip to Washington, D.C. to lobby against potential flood insurance rate hikes, some of those same officials convened with Sen. David Vitter at the home of a Bayou Gauche couple.
