Alzheimer’s fundraiser

BOUTTE - A fundraiser to benefit local Alzheimer’s research will be held on Sunday, Oct. 13 at Lil Leslie’s in Boutte.

Donations of $10 for a ticket will include a fried catfish and white beans plate lunch. A parade of prizes will given out in a drawing following the New Orleans Saints vs. New England Patriots football game.

Lil Leslie’s is located at 13552 Highway 90 in Boutte.

Riverlands Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals 20th anniversary

LAPLACE - The Riverlands Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will celebrate its 20th anniversary at the annual Bark after Dark fundraiser from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.

The cost is $50 per attendee.

Donations of auction items and door prizes are needed. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

Volunteers are needed and monetary donations should be sent to RSPCA, Box 223, LaPlace, LA 70069.

The event will be held at Petra (formerly Bull’s Corner) located at 1036 W. Airline Highway in LaPlace.

Hahnville High School craft show

HAHNVILLE - A crafts show will be held at Hahnville High School

on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event is being held to help raise money for the HHS competition cheerleading team so that they can go to nationals.

Items including handbags, magnets, holiday decorations, plants, children’s apparel, jewelry, Scentsy products, pottery, floral designs, bow and hair accessories, clothes and hats, stoneware, embroidered items and more will be available for purchase.

Hahnville High School is located at 200 Tiger Drive in Boutte.

ACT prep at Destrehan High School

DESTREHAN - ACT Prep sessions to help prepare students for taking the ACT will be available to those who are residents of St. Charles Parish on Saturday, Oct. 12.

English, math and reading sessions will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon and repeated from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Registration is $10 for one session or for both a morning and an afternoon session.

Registration will begin at 8:15 a.m. for the morning session and 12:15 p.m. for the afternoon session. Seating is limited. On-site registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

The session will take place at Destrehan High School, located at 1 Wildcat Lane in Destrehan.

Houma’s Second Annual Courthouse Chili Cook-Off

HOUMA - Held in the downtown Courthouse Square, located at 7856 Main Street, the cooking will begin at 7 a.m. in Houma’s chili cook-off. There will be two categories-traditional and nontraditional chili. Cost per team to enter the cook-off is $125.

Admission to the cook-off will be $5 per person and will allow visitors inside at noon to taste the special recipes for themselves. Visitors will be allowed to eat an unlimited amount of chili. For more information, contact Anne Picou (985) 873-6408.

MasterChef casting for season 5

NEW ORLEANS - Casting for season 5 of the Fox TV show MasterChef will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The MasterChef judges are giving local cooks the opportunity to show the country their culinary skills.
The casting call will be at the Hyatt French Quarter located at 800 Iberville St. in New Orleans.

Listen to best marching bands in state at Destrehan

DESTREHAN - Destrehan High School, home of “The Pride of Destrehan” marching band, will be hosting the 3rd Annual Louisiana Marching Band Circuit (LM8C) New Orleans Regional Competition on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 1 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

The event will feature high school bands from Lake Arthur, Archbishop Rummel, Jesuit, Mandeville, E.D. White Catholic, South Terrebonne, Terrebonne, Vandebilt Catholic, Thibodaux, Acadiana, Denham Springs, Central Lafourche and Destrehan.

The LMBC New Orleans Regional Competition offers participating bands a chance to present their shows to a live audience and to be rated by a panel of judges from across the United States. The judges offer suggestions on how each band can improve their field shows in preparation for the LMBC Championship and the Louisiana Showcase of Marching Bands in November. The event is open to the public.
