River Region Chamber of Commerce welcomes Gov. Bobby Jindal

KENNER - The River Region Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting and installation gala on Feb. 6 from 6p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hilton New Orleans Airport with special guest speakers Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and the executive direction of the Louisiana Workforce Commission, Tim Barfield.

Individual tickets are $65 per person with platinum, gold, silver and bronze table sponsorships available. Attire is formal/semi-formal. Cocktail reception begins at 6 p.m. with the dinner and awards program following at 7 p.m.

Masquerade ball Feb. 6 in Ormond

DESTREHAN - The community is invited to enjoy an enchanting winter-themed evening of dancing to music by DJ Justin Freitag as the Mexico Missions team at St. Charles United Methodist Church hosts their second annual Masquerade ball on Friday, Feb. 6 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Fellowship Hall located at 1905 Ormond Blvd.

Proceeds fund the Mexico mission trips and other Mexico missions which include sending medical and dental information and supplies as well as books, school supplies and basic health care items.

Businesses urged to support charity

Relay for Life of St. Charles Parish organizers are planning a new feature this year - a printed program outlining all the activities of the all-night event, which is set for 6 p.m. March 28 at the West Bank Bridge Park in Luling.

The program will also feature information on the approximately 20 local teams participating in Relay, as well as touching cancer survivor stories and prevention advice.

Companies, sports teams and individuals are being urged to sponsor advertisements in the over 20-page publication, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

Businesses may offer information about their services, and individuals can choose to honor a loved one touched by the disease.

The deadline to reserve ad space is Feb. 4.

The Louisiana Department of Social Services is currently in need of foster parents who are willing to open their homes to local children who are in state custody due to abuse, neglect and/or abandonment.

Free Crapemyrtles to parish residents

St. Charles Parish receive five free crapemyrtle trees for becoming a member of the Arbor Day Foundation in January.

The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting between Feb. 1 and April 30 with enclosed planting instructions. The six to twelve inch trees are guaranteed to grow, or they will be replaced free of charge.

Auxiliary sponsors ‘Valentine’ drive

BOUTTE - The Ladies Auxiliary of Luling Post 3750 is sponsoring “Operation Valentine” to raise money to ship care packages and Valentine bags to troops deployed afar on Saturday, Jan. 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wal-Mart in Boutte.

The group, which will sell yellow ribbons for $2 at the event, also encourages residents to write uplifting and encouraging letters and Valentines to the soldiers. A drop-off box will be on location. Stuffed animals will also be collected.
