With the wind howling at 15 to 25 miles per hour, it seemed we couldn't get a break to go fishing. Jacob Thompson, a good coaching friend from Destrehan, had a cousin and his girlfriend from Alaska in town for the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and he called to see if we could make a crab run on Lake Pontchartrain.

The Hahnville softball team surprised many this season by going undefeated in district play and cruising to the state tournament in Sulphur last weekend, but it was a few uncharacteristic mistakes that ultimately ended the Lady Tiger's run.

Going into Tuesday's game against Dutchtown, Destrehan baseball coach Marty Luquet said he didn't think Griffin pitcher Dillon Day could pitch any better than he did during a 2-0 win against the Wildcats earlier this season.

If a fisherman could make one wish during a fishing trip, it would be to make the wind go calm.

On the mound, junior Kurt McCune got the win but struggled a bit, by his standards. He threw five innings giving up four runs on six hits while walking three. He also struck out six. Senior Hunter Tyree pitched the final two innings. Destrehan locks up playoff spot, Tigers get hammered 13-7

After a half inning Tuesday afternoon, the No. 3-seeded Lady Tigers were down 1-0 in the opening round of the 5A state playoffs against Natchitoches Central.

The annual Senior Olympics kicked off April 14 with track and field events at Destrehan High School. St. Charles Parish participants 60 years old and up were able to compete with others from southeastern Louisiana, including St. John, St. James and Terrebonne parishes.

About a year ago I bought a dozen nets, and like most good things, never got around to go crawfishing although boiling and eating seafood in south Louisiana is a Cajun tradition.

The Destrehan baseball team began its season by only winning three of its first 13 games, but since then, the Cats have won 11 of their last 12 to vault to the top of the district.
