St. Gertrude holds adult gala Nov. 15

DES ALLEMANDS - St. Gertrude Catholic Church Fellowship and Family Life Ministry will sponsor an adult gala, A Night at the Movies, next month.

The event will be held Nov. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Father Mac Community Center. A wine and cheese social will be held at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m.
Deacon Garland Bourgeois will speak.

Tickets, at $20 per person, will be sold before and after Masses on Oct. 26 and Nov. 2.

American Legion hosts blood drive

ST. ROSE - The American Legion Road Post 366 of Destrehan will sponsor a blood drive on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 12188 River Rd. in connection with Ochsner Blood Bank.

All donors get a blood bank T-shirt, blood type
identification, mini-physical, cholesterol test and a blood assurance package.

Donors should eat a healthy meal prior to donation and a picture ID is required to donate.

Fire department hosts teen dance

DES ALLEMANDS - The Des Allemands Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a teen dance on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Des Allemands Fire Station located at 16960 Highway 90.

Music provided by DJ Jimmie Fish. Dance is open to ages 12 to 17.

Proof of age is required for admission. No exceptions. Parents are required to sign child out of dance.

Women’s Day at Paradis church

PARADIS - First Baptist Church of Paradis’ Pastor Albert M. Charles and the Women’s Day committee begin the celebration of the church’s annual Women’s Day with activities on Saturday, Nov. 15 that include prayer breakfast at 9 a.m.

Evangelist Lawanna Marts of New Hope International Ministries of Vacherie and Pastor Claudette Aubert will speak at the breakfast.

The official event will begin on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 11:30 a.m. with guest speaker Rev. Marilyn Washington of New Vision Outreach Ministries of Donaldsonville along with Pastor Michael Washington.

Household energy workshop Nov. 14

NEW SARPY - The St. Charles Parish Department of Community Services will present a household energy conservation workshop at 10 a.m. Nov. 14 at the Arterbury Building, 14565 River Road.

Church garage sale set for Nov. 8

AMA - St. Mark Catholic Church will hold a garage sale on Nov. 8 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Father Cote Community Center in Ama.

100,000 books on sale in Jefferson

METAIRIE - The Friends of the Jefferson Public Library’s semi-annual book sale will be held from Thursday, Oct. 30 through Sunday, Nov. 2 at The Pontchartrain Center in Kenner where over 100,000 used books will be available for purchase.

Zoo celebrates Louisiana Nov. 1

NEW ORLEANS - The Audubon Zoo is throwing a party - Cajun style! Celebrate Louisiana’s heritage at the 24th annual Louisiana Swamp Fest at the zoo located at 6500 Magazine St. on Nov. 1 and 2.

Admission is included in regular admission, which is $12.50 for adults, $7.50 for children ages 2 to 12 and $9.50 for seniors 65 years of age and over. Audubon Zoo members are admitted free of charge.
