Sheriff’s office offers range days

KILLONA - The St. Charles Sheriff’s Office will allow the general public to use the St. Charles Firing Range to shoot handguns on March 7 and 28.

The public will also get to use the facility on April 4 and 18, and May 2 and 16.

“We get mostly men, but women come also,” said Sgt. Ted Adams, who is in charge of the program.

Adams says he has received a lot of requests for the dates and expects a good turnout.

A required 30-minute safety briefing begins at 8 a.m. and noon on each day. Range hours will be 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and noon to 4 p.m.

Participants must bring targets, safety glasses, hearing protection, baseball-type cap and staple gun and staples.

Frisco Fest 2009 begins March 7

GARYVILLE - San Francisco Plantation will host its 6th annual Frisco Fest: Spring Garden and Craft Festival on March 7 and 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Over 100 crafters and artists, delicious Creole and Cajun cuisine, live music, and kids activities are on the itinerary.

Saturday includes a bike race, a car show and the battle of the bands. Sunday includes two marathons and the cook-off competition.

Grab your pole, it’s time to fish

NORCO - The St. Charles Council on Aging and the St. Charles Parish Department of Parks and Recreation will host their annual fishing rodeo on Wednesday, April 1 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Bonne Carre Spillway Park Pavilion in Norco.

“The event is open to seniors 60 years and older,” said COA spokesperson Stephanie Boudreaux. “Fishing poles and bait are supplied, but seniors are asked to bring their own hats and chairs.”

Event highlights include music, entertainment, prizes, food and lots of fun.

In addition to the fishing rodeo the COA will also hosts a cookie contest and a “Tall Fish Tale” essay contest at the pavilion.

Seniors are invited to write a funny or far out “Tall Fish Tale” ranging from 50 to 75 words. Deadline is March 25. Entries may be handwritten or typed.

The cookie contest will also be held on Wednesday, April 1 at the Bonnet Carre Spillway recreation area in Norco during the organization’s annual fishing rodeo. For entry forms and rules, contact Stephanie at 985-783-6683.Read More...
