Biz fest and health fair March 13 - 14

BOUTTE - The 2009 St. Charles Business Association’s Business Fest and Health Fair will be held on March 13 from noon to 5 p.m and March 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hahnville High School.

Admission is free. Activities include the Ochsner Blood Mobile, free health screenings, vendor prizes and raffles, and the Saintsations on March 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Country radio station WNOE 101.1 will broadcast live from the event on March 14.

Hahnville paints the town purple

HAHNVILLE - Hahnville residents are encouraged to “paint the town purple” on March 12 in observance of the parish’s upcoming American Cancer Society Relay for Life event.

Youth baseball tryouts March 10

DESTREHAN - The 2009 Youth Baseball American League Tryouts will be held on March 10 a the East Bank Bridge Park in Destrehan.

Children ages 11 and 12 can tryout at 5:30 p.m., tryouts for kids between 13 and 14 years old begins at 7 p.m.
This league is for more advanced players. Coaching staff for the league will be selected by the parish registration department.

Car show benefits Relay for Life

BOUTTE - The associates of Wal-Mart 2913 present the first annual Relay for Life car show hosted by Louisiana Custom Cruisers, Inc. and Louie’s Wrecker Service on March 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Registration is from 8 a.m. to noon. Early entry fee is $20, day of the show registration is $25. All early entries must be received by Feb. 28.

Anything on wheels is welcome - cars, trucks, bikes, custom bikes, low riders, antiques street rods and boats.

Food and drinks will be sold. There will also be music and door prizes. Checks should be made payable to Louisiana Custom Cruisers, Inc. and mailed to Louis Morales, Jr., 675 Magnolia Ridge Rd, Boutte, LA 70039.

Sheriff’s office offers range days

KILLONA - The St. Charles Sheriff’s Office will allow the general public to use the St. Charles Firing Range to shoot handguns on March 7 and 28.

The public will also get to use the facility on April 4 and 18, and May 2 and 16.

“We get mostly men, but women come also,” said Sgt. Ted Adams, who is in charge of the program.

Adams says he has received a lot of requests for the dates and expects a good turnout.

A required 30-minute safety briefing begins at 8 a.m. and noon on each day. Range hours will be 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and noon to 4 p.m.

Participants must bring targets, safety glasses, hearing protection, baseball-type cap and staple gun and staples.

Frisco Fest 2009 begins March 7

GARYVILLE - San Francisco Plantation will host its 6th annual Frisco Fest: Spring Garden and Craft Festival on March 7 and 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
