Women’s association starts member drive

LAPLACE - The LaFlambeau Charter Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association kicks off its membership drive with a dinner and program on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Armand’s Restaurant at the Quality Inn in LaPlace beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Big top circus coming to town this month

First-time homebuyer workshop this month

Plantation's tour celebrates tradition

VACHERIE - St. Joseph Plantation announces its second annual Mourning Tour featuring the customs and rituals of 19th century Creole Louisiana now through Saturday, Nov. 3.

The house will be dressed in full deep mourning - according to the old prescribed protocol of mourning.

The plantation is located along River Road in Vacherie with daily tours Monday through Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. and on Sundays at noon and 4 p.m.

Self Defense Workshop for kids ages 6 to 14 at Destrehan High on Thursday, Oct. 18 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Child fingerprinting at Destrehan High on Thursday, Oct. 18 from 6 p.m. to 7p.m.

Self Defense for Women & Teenagers on Thursday, Oct. 25 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Destrehan High.

Pumpkin patch and tractor ride Oct. 13

LULING - Come join the greater New Orleans area MOPS - Mothers of Preschoolers - chapter for a morning of fall fun for the entire family on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 9:30 a.m. at Perilloux Farms in Montz.

Cost: $5 per person and includes a tractor ride and a pumpkin. Kids under 12 are admitted free.

LULING - The St. Charles Community Health Center, located at 843 Milling Ave., is administering flu shots for $20, as long as supplies last.

Appointments are not required and walk-ins are welcomed.

Clinic hours are: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
