LULING - The Rotary of St. Charles sponsors the lighting of the parish Christmas tree on Thursday, Dec. 6 at the Westbank Bridge Park in Luling.

Family center holds internet safety class

LULING - The Title I Family Center and detective Joey Thibodeaux from the Juvenile Investigations Division of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office will hold an internet safety workshop on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Luling Elementary School cafeteria.

The purpose of the workshop is to provide parents and communities with an understanding of the key issues associated with online child predators and how to protect your children online.

Cost: FREE. Light refreshments will be served.

Luling parade meets announced for ‘07-’08

LULING - Although the Mardi Gras holiday is still a few months away, the Krewe of LUl is getting ready for the carnival season and has released their upcoming meetings.
Meeting schedule:
Dec. 5, 6:30 p.m. - Ramada Inn, Luling. Jan. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, 6:30 p.m. - Ramada Inn, Luling.

Large float fees: $300 - pay by Dec. 5, $500 - pay by Jan. 2, 2008, $600 - pay by Jan. 16, 2008.

Small float fees: $200 - pay by Dec. 5, $400 - pay by Jan. 2, 2008, $500 - pay by Jan. 16, 2008.

No entries will be accepted after Jan. 16, 2008. The parade is scheduled for Feb. 2, 2008. The parade line-up and float numbers will be distributed on Jan. 30, 2008.

MEOW! Cats, the musical in Houma

Norco residents gear up for their annual Christmas parade, Dec. 2

NORCO - The Norco Civic Association sponsors the Norco Noel Parade that will roll Sunday, Dec. 2 in Norco.
Parade highlights are bands, floats, marching groups, queens, horses and other Christmas attractions. See map on page 4D.

Oak Alley bonfire set to blaze December 1

VACHERIE - The 31st Annual Oak Alley Plantation Bonfire is set for Saturday, Dec. 1 from 7 p.m. to midnight on the home’s grounds located at 3645 Highway 18 in Vacherie.
Tour guides dressed in antebellum dresses and a brass quintet will lead the traditional parade through the illuminated alley to the levee for the lighting of the bonfire.

First convoy of hope being held Nov. 17

DES ALLEMANDS - The first St. Charles Convoy of Hope will be held on Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. at the old Lions Club Park in Des Allemands located at 16976 U.S. Highway 90.

Local businesses, churches and community groups are working together to present the event which will benefit local, less fortunate families.

Seniors group sets Mardi Gras events

HAHNVILLE - The St. Charles Council on Aging has released the dates for their Krewe of the Young At Heart special Mardi Gras events.

The Mardi Gras Brunch will be held on Friday, Nov. 16 at 9 a.m. and the Mardi Gras Coronation Tea is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Hahnville Center located at 626 Pine St.

The 12th Annual Mardi Gras Ball will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Jerusalem Shrine Temple Mosque located at 1940 Ormond Blvd. in Destrehan.
