BOUTTE- The “Help is Here Express” bus tour will arrive in Boutte on Friday, Feb. 22 outside the offices of the St. Charles Herald-Guide to help uninsured and financially-struggling residents with programs that provide prescription medicines for free or nearly free.
The bus will be parked at 14236 Highway 90 in Boutte from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

LULING - St. Charles Parish Public Schools Community Education Spring 2008 registration will begin Feb. 1 and continue through Feb. 28.
The class brochure can be accessed on the school system’s website at www.stcharles.k12.la.us - Under Quick Links choose Community, then the Community Education link for the most current information.
Class brochures, which have a lot of new classes this semester, are being mailed out to all St. Charles Parish Residents the first week of February.
Brochures will also be available at the public library.

|ACT preparation classes offered this month

High school students who are residents of St. Charles Parish are invited to attend a series of two help sessions to assist them in their preparation for taking the ACT.
The sessions include an overview of the ACT, practice tests, and test taking strategies specific to the ACT.
To receive the most benefit from the prep sessions, students should attend both sessions.
The sessions will be held at Destrehan High’s Technology Building on Sunday, Feb. 17 and Sunday, Feb. 24.
Each session will be held from 2 p.m. until 5 pm.
A fee of $10 includes both sessions.
Students wishing to attend must register by noon on Thursday, Feb. 14 by contacting Sandra Zeller at the St. Charles Parish Schools’ Central Office by calling 985-785-7265 or by emailing her at firstname.lastname@example.org. Walk-ins will not be accepted.

NORCO - Persons interested in applying for the Tulane Legislative Scholarship for the 2008-2009 school year should send an application for consideration to: District 56 Tulane Legislative Scholarship, c/o Gary L. Smith, Jr., P.O. Box 189, Norco, LA 70079.
The application must include: (1) a letter of requestion for consideration. (2) a recent transcript of grades. (3) ACT test scores. (4) proof of eligibility for admission to Tulane University.

|Airline Drive Task Force holds meeting

HOUMA - My Little Pony Live - The World’s Biggest Tea Party, is coming to the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center, located at 346 Civic Center Boulevard, on Friday, Feb. 8 to Sunday, Feb. 10. Tickets are on sale now.
The 90-minute, highly interactive musical production features singing, dancing and audience participation.

For more than a month now, we’ve all seen the roped-off areas along Luling’s River Road and in parts of Des Allemands - and if you’re from here, then you know that means - it’s time for Mardi Gras.
The St. Charles Parish parades are truly a community event, with residents making sure they have a great view of the passing festivities.
Krewe of Lul
Saturday, Feb. 2
LULING - The Krewe of Lul celebrates their 31st year with nearly 900 riders and a special grand marshal, Hokie Gajan.
That’s right, the former LSU and Saints football player will reign as part of this year’s royalty.
Parade organizers say that spectators can expect to see 30 floats, the Hahnville High School band, local fire departments and festival kings and queens.
The 2008 king and queen are Irvon “Cookie” and Dolores Gomez.
Krewe of Des Allemands
Sunday, Feb. 3
DES ALLEMANDS - The Krewe of Des Allemands will roll this year with 18 homemade floats and around 360 riders.
The krewe was formed in 1995 after the local Lion’s Club stopped parading.
The king and queen, which is always a married couple, is none other than Hugh “Nunnie” and Betty Dufrene.

BOUTTE - Hahnville High School students in Daniel Ruiz class will be performing the play “Speak Truth to Power” by Ariel Dorfman on Jan. 30 and 31 at 7 p.m. in the HHS auditorium.
The play is based on Kerry Kennedy Cuomo’s book by the same name, featuring powerful stories of human rights.
Admission is free. Donations will be accepted for local and national human rights organizations.

DESTREHAN - Kid Krewe de Market will roll at the German Coast Farmers' Market on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 10 a.m. at Ormond Plantation, the East Bank site of the Farmers' Market.
Decorated wagons with members ages 8 and under will parade through the market booth area whirling Mardi Gras throws.
First and second place prizes will be awarded to the most attractive "floats."
To participate in the parade, the decorated wagon must be pulled by an adult and the rider (age 8 or under) must provide his/her own throws.
Entrance fee is $5. Participants are asked to arrive at the Parade Registration Table, located near the rear of the Market, at 9:30a.m. to sign-up.
All are invited to attend the Farmers' Markets between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon every Saturday morning at Ormond Plantation on River Road in Destrehan.
The Wednesday West Bank Market is also open every Wednesday from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Fresh produce, citrus, wines, jellies, honey, fresh and smoked rotiserrie meats, kettle corn, pestos, pepper jelly, gourmet rice, Mediterranean cuisine, jambalaya, pastalaya, gourmet sandwiches, specialty breads, scented candles, soaps, plants, herbs, pastries, king cakes, and more are available at your local German Coast Farmers' Markets.
