So far this week, we have said “Good Night Irene” and remembered the most destructive hurricane ever that struck our coast six years ago, Monday. And we can breathe a sigh of relief that Irene didn’t come this way and, after a difficult struggle, we did survive Katrina.

As the Mighty Mississippi rolls through southeast Louisiana, it is gratifying to see that what could have been may not happen. In other words, we won’t be up to our ear lobes in water overflowing into our neighborhoods.

Bills have been introduced into the state legislature to eliminate the state income tax, which may be a good idea but not for the next couple of years. We are already at deficit status and doing it right away would make it difficult to keep the state in business.
