Catfish festival and children’s pagent

DES ALLEMANDS - The annual La. Catfish Festival Baby and Youth Pageant will be held on Saturday May 5, 2012 in Des Allemands at the Father Mac Community Center. There will be age groups from 0 months-10 years old. King and Queen crowns’ and banners, first, second, and third runner up awards will be offered. Parish Government Tours

St. Charles Parish government will provide citizens with a behind-the-scenes look at the workings of parish infrastructure and service programs, including pumping stations and the Emergency Operations Center during its spring 2012 Info Tour. Tours will be held May 3 and 4 from 8 a.m. until noon. Meetup for both tours will be at the St. Charles Parish Courthouse Council Chambers, 15045 River Road in Hahnville. Transportation and breakfast will be provided. New additions to the tour include a walk-through of Mosquito Control Inc. and the new St. Charles Parish animal shelter; available both days.

The West Bank tour on May 3 will feature the Luling wastewater oxidation pond, the Cousins pumping station, the Davis Diversion pumping station and the Luling waterworks facility.

The East Bank tour on May 4 will feature the Destrehan wastewater treatment plant, the East Bank hurricane protection levee, Destrehan I pumping station, Cross Bayou pumping station and the New Sarpy waterworks plant.

32nd Annual Little Red Church Festival

DESTREHAN - St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church will host its 32nd annual Little Red Church Food and Fun Festival from May 4-6 behind the church on River Road. Entry into the festival is free and about 3,000 to 5,000 people attend each year.
The festival features bands, dance performances, pageants, paint ball, Karate exhibitions, carnival rides and Louisiana cuisine.

Off The Hook and Bonerama will perform Saturday and No Idea and the Topcats will play on Sunday. The drumline showcase will take place on Friday.

Cancer Charity: Relay For Life

LULING - Relay For Life of St. Charles Parish in support of the American Cancer Society will take place beginning at 3 p.m. April 21 at the West Bank Bridge Park in Luling. Free dental care for the poor

Spring Concert: Community Choruses of River Parishes

HAMMOND - The Community Chorus of River Parishes will combine with The Southeastern Louisiana University Choirs and the Northlake Performing Arts Society to present Leonard Bernstein’s ‘Chichester Psalms’ at the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, in downtown Hammond. General admission tickets are $10, and will be available at the Columbia Theatre Box Office.

April 17 is the last day to request an absentee mail ballot for the election.

DESTREHAN - The public is invited to participate in a “Pass Along” plant exchange at the German Coast Farmers’ Market on April 7 at 10:30 a.m. The event will be held at the market’s Destrehan location at Ormond Plantation and registration begins at 10 a.m. Participants should bring a well-established, healthy specimen in a one-half gallon or larger container. Each person will be allowed one entry. The botanical or pet name of the plant should be included, along with simple instructions for care. Walk to nine churches in “Soles for Christ” event

NEW ORLEANS - Soles for Christ, a nine-church walk, will take place on Good Friday, April 6, beginning at 7:45 a.m. There will be live Stations of the Cross and music. Registration is $15 and includes t-shirt, song booklet and bottled water. 15,000 eggs at annual Easter hunt

BAYOU GAUCHE - More than 15,000 eggs will be scattered across fields at the Bayou Gauche Volunteer Fire State during the annual EGGstravaganza on March 31. The free event, sponsored by Life Fellowship Community Church, will begin at 10:20 a.m. and is open to children walking to 12 years old. There will be prizes in each age division, a petting zoo, cart rids, face painting and more.
