Vacherie manor mourning tour

VACHERIE - St. Joseph Plantation is holding a “Creole Mourning Tour” of the house now through Nov. 3.

The plantation will be dressed in a full “deep mourning” to honor the important customs and traditions of ancient Catholics and river parish descendants.

100,000 books on sale in Jefferson

METAIRIE - The Friends of the Jefferson Public Library’s semi-annual book sale will be held from Thursday, Oct. 30 through Sunday, Nov. 2 at The Pontchartrain Center in Kenner where over 100,000 used books will be available for purchase.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Zoo celebrates Louisiana Nov. 1

NEW ORLEANS - The Audubon Zoo is throwing a party - Cajun style! Celebrate Louisiana’s heritage at the 24th annual Louisiana Swamp Fest at the zoo located at 6500 Magazine St. on Nov. 1 and 2.

Admission is included in regular admission, which is $12.50 for adults, $7.50 for children ages 2 to 12 and $9.50 for seniors 65 years of age and over. Audubon Zoo members are admitted free of charge.

Car show benefits 4-year-old girl

BOUTTE - Louisiana Custom Cruisers, Inc. will hold their second annual benefit car show for Marlie Graham, who was born with cerebral palsy, on Nov. 1 at the St. Charles Plaza located at 12715 Highway 90 in Boutte.

Destrehan wins big, Hahnville falls in heartbreaker

The Destrehan Wildcats blew right by East Ascension Friday night, rolling up 46 points and shutting down the Spartans to move to 8-0 on the season. Meanwhile, Hahnville climbed their way back from a 21-3 halftime deficit against East St. John to send the game to overtime, but couldn’t score in the extra period and fell 35-28, dropping their season record to 5-3.Read More...

Ordinance would make developers pay

Once a developer puts drainage, sewer lines, roads and light fixtures in a subdivision in St. Charles Parish, the builder of that subdivision has a year to guarantee the work. Now, an ordinance introduced by Councilman Paul Hogan is asking that Public Works officials and an engineer give those subdivisions a final inspection before the one year warranty expires.Read More...

For at least the last 30 years of his life, 65-year-old Hahnville resident and military veteran Larry Franklin has been blind.
