NORCO - The drama club at Sacred Heart School in Norco will present three performances of Once Upon A Mattress to be held April 24 through 26 at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Tickets are now on sale in the school office or may be purchased at the door.
Adult tickets are $6 and student tickets are $3.

|Hospital hosts grand opening celebration

LULING - On Saturday, April 19 St. Charles Parish Hospital will host a Grand Opening Celebration and Dedication Ceremony for the David J. Vial, M.D. Patient Care Centré.
Don't miss this exciting opportunity to tour the new facility, have fun with family oriented activities and celebrate an important medical expansion for our community.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 2 p.m. and includes a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony, tours, food and entertainment featuring St. Charles Parish Hospital's award winning jambalaya, and children's activities including a Teddy Bear Clinic where kids can bring their teddy bears in for a check-up, fire department safe houses and "Sparky" the Fire Dog.
The celebration will be held on Milling Avenue behind St. Charles Parish Hospital in Luling. Parking will be available near the hospital with shuttle transportation.

|Fundraiser on tap for travel softball team

HAHNVILLE - The 16U Louisiana Interrogators girls travel softball team will hold a fundraiser on April 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Hymel’s Restaurant located at 15805 River Rd. in Hahnville.
Plate lunches including fried catfish, white beans and rice, potato salad and bread will be on sale for $5. The meals are take-out only.

DESTREHAN - The MOMS Club of Kenner, Destrehan and LaPlace is holding an open house on Friday, April 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kenner City Park located on the corner of Loyola Avenue and Vintage street in Kenner.
The club will have a bounce house, treasure hunt and refreshments. The Kenner Fire Department and Kenner Police Department will be there to perform car seat checks and fingerprinting.

|It’s ‘Food for Fines’ month at libraries

LULING - St. Charles Parish Libraries are holding Food for Fines during the month of April.
In an effort to give something back to the community, the libraries will collect non-perishable foods which will be donated to the parish’s food bank.
Patrons are encouraged to bring in food items to clear their fines, which can be for overdue items or for accrued overdue charges.
The library is asking that you donate one item for every dollar you have in fines.
The following items are specifically needed: canned fruit, canned milk, cereals, small jars of jelly and small cans of meat.

DESTREHAN - The Destrehan High School music, art and drama departments are teaming together this semester to put on a full-out musical.
The students will be performing Disney’s Beauty and the Beast with performances on Thursday, April 10 and Friday, April 11 at 7 p.m., on Sunday, April 13 at 4 p.m. and Monday, April 14.
Tickets are $8 and are on sale at the school.

HAHNVILLE - The American Legion #131 will sponsor a community blood drive with Ochsner Blood Bank on April 10 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the St. Charles Parish Courthouse located at 15045 River Rd.
All donors will receive a New Orleans Hornets Blood Bank T-shirt, a mini physical, blood typing, cholesterol test and blood assurance package. A free meal will be served to participants and all donors can register to win two AMC movie passes.
|Spring garden show set for April 5 & 6

NEW ORLEANS - The 2008 Spring Garden Show in New Orleans will be held at the City Park Botanical Garden on April 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Patrons can browse through gardens and meet with plant and garden product vendors.
The show will also feature a Q & A tent where LSU AgCenter specialists will answer questions relating to tree and plant health, and soil samples can be brought in for analysis.
Admission is $6 for adults and $2 for children ages 5 to 12. Children under 5 and members of Friends of City Park may enter free.

LULING - Grab your running - or walking shoes - and head on over to the East Bank Bridge Park on Saturday, April 5 for the United Way’s annual 5K marathon that will take you across the Hale Boggs Mississippi River Bridge and lead you to the finish line at the West Bank Bridge Park.
Late registration forms are now being accepted for a fee of $25 through the day of the race along with a $20 no T-shirt entry.
The 3.1 mile course offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Mississippi River from the Hale Boggs Bridge. And race organizers have left nothing to chance - there’s an alternate ground-level course that may be used in the event of hazardous conditions or weather on the bridge.
Packet pickup and late registration information is Friday, April 4 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the West Bank Bridge Park. Packet pickup begins at 7:30 a.m. on race day at the East Bank Bridge Park.
The 5K runners will fire off at 8:30 a.m. with race walkers and fitness walkers following at 8:32 a.m.
Awards will be given in seven divisions and a $4,000 prize money purse. Commemorative medallions will also be presented to the 1st and 2nd place male and female in each age group.
Post race festivities include: music by The Wiseguys, food and refreshments, face painting, inflatables, dunking booths, St. Charles Parish bookmobile, pony rides, raffles and a 50/50.
