Christmas New Orleans’ style

One of New Orleans’ newest traditions, and one of the most colorful, is the annual “Miracle on Fulton Street.”
Among the displays and attractions visitors can expect to see during the month-long event include the following:

- Two winter wonderland tunnels, complete with Santa and his reindeer

- A giant gingerbread house

- “Faux Snow” falling every hour on the hour, starting at noon

- Live entertainment with top local performers on weekends

- Holiday-themed dining at nearby participating restaurants

- Santa’s Shop, selling official “Miracle on Fulton Street”
merchandise, including commemorative ornaments, apparel, bells, coffee mugs and more

HHS softball hosts Christmas camp

BOUTTE - The Hahnville High School softball team will host their “Softball with Santa” camp for girls, ages 7 to 13, Dec. 29 through Dec. 31 from 9 a.m. to noon at the HHS softball complex.

The camp will cover pitching, hitting, infield and outfield fundamentals, game strategies and actual game time activities.

Campers will receive a camp shirt that can be worn to any Hahnville softball home game and entry fee will be $1. All skill levels are welcome. Parents are encouraged to participate the final day of camp for Game Day. The cost of the camp is $50 if pre-registered by Dec. 22. The cost is $60 the day of the camp.

Chris Westcott to instruct camp

LULING - The St. Charles Parish Department of Parks and Recreation will host its first annual STC Big League Dreams Christmas Baseball Camp for boys ages 6 to 14 on Monday, Dec. 29 and Tuesday, Dec. 30.

The camp will be held at the West Bank Bridge Park in Luling from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $75 per player in advance, $100 if you register the day of the event.

Chicago Cubs’ Chad Gaudin and professional baseball instructor Chris Westcott will be on hand at the camp.

Santa Claus suits up for annual Bayou Gauche Christmas Boat Parade

DES ALLEMANDS - The annual Bayou Gauche Christmas Boat Parade is set for Saturday, Dec. 13 at 6:30 p.m. on Highway 306 on the Bayou Gauche Island in Des Allemands.

Anyone is welcome to enter a decorated boat for the parade. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winning boat.

The parade begins at the island’s pump station and ends at Fisherman’s Wharf.

Norco remembers Pearl Harbor

NORCO - The annual Norco Christmas Parade will pay tribute to local World War II veterans and other military personnel as it rolls through the streets of Norco for the eighth consecutive year.

“Norco Noel: Norco Remembers Pearl Harbor,” is the theme of this year’s event, which will roll Dec. 7 at 2 p.m.

The parade will follow a route from River Road up Good Hope Street and down Apple Street on the first Sunday in December.

The lighting of the community Christmas tree will follow at the Capital One bank parking lot, and children will be offered free photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

This year’s date just lent itself to a military theme, parade co-chairman Marty Luquet said.

Dec. 7, 1941, was the day Japan’s military bombed the U.S. Navy base at Pearl Harbor which resulted in the nation’s involvement in World War II.

“It’s a great opportunity for our parade to pay tribute to those who have served our country,” Luquet said.

The parade’s organizing committee is inviting all local World War II veterans and other military personnel to take part in this year’s holiday event.
