|Adult day care seeks local talent for annual summer variety show

Norco Adult Day Care is planning its 16th annual Summer Variety show to be held at Sacred Heart School Auditorium in Norco.
Special emphasis is on local talent - students and adults who would like free public exposure.
Honored guests will be the clients of Norco Adult Day Care, and the public is invited to attend.
The date for the show is July 25 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Anyone interested in donating their time is asked to call Kathy at 985-764-7223.
The variety show is the annual fund raiser for Norco Adult Day Care. Tickets for the show will be on sale at the center, which is located at 425 Spruce St. or from staff and volunteers at Norco Adult Day Care.
Tickets are $2 each. Door prizes will also be given away at intermission.
Winners of door prizes do not have to present to collect their prize. Refreshments will also be available.
|Courthouse hosts national prayer day

HAHNVILLE - St. Charles Parish participants will commemorate 2008's National Day of Prayer from noon to 1 p.m. May 1 at the Courthouse at 15045 River Road.
Ceremony coordinator Brenda Chiasson of the West St. Charles Baptist Church in Boutte invites the public to attend.
Chiasson is inviting pastors from area churches to speak about the virtues of prayer. Other guest speakers will include members of law enforcement, EMTs and St. Charles Parish Hospital officials. Parish President V.J. St. Pierre, Jr. will introduce the ceremony with a prayer.
Congress designated the National Day of Prayer in 1952 as a time for all Americans, regardless of faith, to come together and pray in their own way. In 1988 President Ronald Reagan signed a bill calling for the observance every first Thursday of May. The National Day of Prayer Task Force, based in Colorado, organizes many observances around the country.

|Senior groups hosts hurricane conference

LULING - The St. Charles Parish Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will host a Hurricane Conference for senior citizens at 10 a.m. May 1 at the VFW Hall, 140 Angus Drive in Luling.
The conference will focus on what seniors need to know to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season, RSVP Director Fay Caire said.
Presenters will include the St. Charles Parish Emergency Operations Center, the St. Charles Sheriff's Department, local fire departments and the Department of Animal Control. A light lunch will be provided.

|Spaghetti dinner on tap at Paradis church

BOUTTE - Boutte Christian Academy and Allemands Elementary schools are collecting General Mills Box Tops for Education and Community Coffee UPC labels.
Boutte Christian Academy is also collecting empty printer cartridges, old cellular phones and fax machines.
To donate to Allemands Elementary, drop off tables will be at the school located on WPA road in Des Allemands or at Frank’s Supermarket.

|Blood drive held for Terry Vitrano

BOUTTE - A blood drive to collect replacement blood for Terry Vitrano, who is awaiting a liver transplant surgery will be held on Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wal-mart Super Center located at 13001 Highway 90 in Boutte.
The Ochsner bloodmobile will be on hand and all donors will receive a blood bank T-shirt, blood type identification, a mini physical and a cholesterol test.
All donors must have a picture ID.

|It’s ‘Food for Fines’ month at libraries

LULING - St. Charles Parish Libraries are holding Food for Fines during the month of April.
In an effort to give something back to the community, the libraries will collect non-perishable foods which will be donated to the parish’s food bank.
Patrons are encouraged to bring in food items to clear their fines, which can be for overdue items or for accrued overdue charges.
The library is asking that you donate one item for every dollar you have in fines.
The following items are specifically needed: canned fruit, canned milk, cereals, small jars of jelly and small cans of meat.
