HAHNVILLE - The Friends of St. Charles Parish Library will hold their summer book sale at the Book Nook on Friday June 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday, Jun 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The store is located next to the Hahnville library on River Road.
|Public day at the firing range

HAHNVILLE - St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne is pleased to announce that the sheriff’s office firing range will be open to the general public on Saturday, June 7 for handguns only.
Hours are from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and noon to 4 p.m.
Safety briefings will be held at 8 a.m. and noon and will last for 30 minutes.
All participants are required to provide their own ammo, targets, safety glasses, hearing protection and baseball-type cap.
All participants must also adhere to the following rules: must be 18 years or older, must have proper identification, must attend a safety briefing, weapons must be in a gun box or holster, all guns must be unloaded upon entering the range, weapons must be left in vehicle until all paperwork and safety briefings have been completed, and all shooters must wear a holster to secure their weapon while on the premises.

|Beer tasting at Lakefront Arena

NEW ORLEANS - WYES television hosts its annual International Beer Tasting where patrons can sample over 200 beers, ales, lagers and homebrews on Saturday, June 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans.
Ticket prices in advance: $35 per person, $30 for groups of 6 or more and seniors, plus Ticketmaster fees. Tickets are $45 at the door. Parking is free.

KENNER - The Rivertown Repertory Theatre will hold a second round of auditions for the opening of their 2008-2009 Season of Premieres with Miss Saigon on Saturday, June 7 at 1 p.m. at the theater located at 325 Minor St.
Director Butch Caire is looking for male singers and dancers aged 16 to 45 from all ethic origins and female singers and dancers aged 16-35 of Asian heritage.
All should have good singing voices and be able to move well on stage.

LULING - The Carolyn Louviere Cancer Benefit Golf Tournament will be held June 6 at Willowdale Country Club in Luling.
The four-man scramble will have tee times at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. The cost is $100 per person or $400 per team. Sponsorships are needed.

BOUTTE - Rev. Robert Pardo and the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Boutte invite everyone including congregations and choir groups to participate in Mt. Zion’s annual gospel festival.
The festival will be held on May 31 and June 1 at 107 Magnolia Ridge in Boutte from noon to 7 p.m.

BOUTTE - The Boutte Christian Academy is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge. Acceptance and participating requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color national origin, sex, age or disability.
Meals are provided at the following sites and times:
•Boutte Christian Academy - located at 13271 Highway 90. Meals served May 26 through August 8 Monday through Friday. Breakfast served from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and lunch from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

St. Charles Parish Library is offering free beginner level computer classes at three library locations.
All classes are single two-hour classes, not continuing courses.
It is necessary to register for each class you wish to attend, but you may register for all available classes at the same time.

United Way of St. Charles will host a blood drive with The Blood Center on Thursday, May 29 from noon to 4 p.m.
The blood drive will be held at the United Way of St. Charles at 13207 River Rd. in Luling. It costs nothing to give blood and you will get a free t-shirt. Just bring an ID with you.

HAHNVILLE - St. Charles Parish will host a Memorial Day ceremony Saturday, 11 a.m. to noon, at the St. Charles Courthouse, 15045 River Road, Hahnville.
Charles Cancienne of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars is organizing the ceremony, which will feature presentation of colors by the Hahnville High School ROTC, a 21-gun salute by the United Veterans League, the playing of taps, and patriotic singing by local resident Penny Matherne.
Speakers are Parish President V.J. St. Pierre, veteran Sonny Savoie and former Parish President Albert Laque. Local veterans and other residents are encouraged to attend. For information, call Cancienne at (985) 758-7716.
|Community chorus holds free concert

DESTREHAN - The public is invited to attend the spring concert for the Community Chorus of the River Parishes on May 23 at 7 p.m. at the St. Charles Borromeo Church on River Road in Destrehan.
The concert will be inspirational in theme and will be ideal for family entertainment and all those who love music.
