St. Partick’s Day dance March 14

DES ALLEMANDS - The Des Allemands Volunteer Fire Department will hold its St. Patrick’s Day dance for kids 12 to `17 years of age on March 14 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the fire station next to Wenger Road in Des Allemands.

J.B. Martin and Hahnville High School IDs are required for entry. A parent is also required to sign the children in and out of the dance.

Admission is $5. Concession will be sold.

Garden show set at LSU AgCenter

HAMMOND - The Hammond Spring Garden Show will be held on Saturday, March 14 at the LSU AgCenter’s Hammond Research Station at 21549 Old Covington Highway from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Faculty members and master gardeners will present a series of presentations on backyard composting, rain-barrel gardening, gardens after tree loss, new landscape plants and square-foot gardening.

100 years of dance honored at ballet

DESTREHAN - The River Region Drama Guild and Ballet will perform their spring ballet on March 14 at 7:30 p.m. and March 15 at 2 p.m. at the Destrehan High School auditorium located at 1 Wildcat Lane.

This year’s event will honor 100 years of dance with the ballet, “La Boutique Fantasque.”

Live music, food, crafts at festival

DESTREHAN - Destrehan Plantation Celebrates its popular Spring Arts and Crafts Festival March 14 and 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the manor grounds located at 13034 River Rd. in Destrehan.

Arts and crafts vendors from throughout the country will offer a variety of wood crafts, pottery, jewelry, quilts, ceramics, prints, oil paintings, dolls, stained glass, clothing, baskets and much more.

Over 20 chefs will prepare local delicacies such as fried seafood, gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice and other favorites.

The antique area will have 12 dealers inside the unique 1840s Mule Barn as well as additional vendors adjacent to the barn.

Craftsmen will demonstrate how our ancestors cooked on an open-hearth and dyed clothes with indigo.

Children’s activities include pony rides and face paintings. A space walk will also be available for children wanting to play while parents shop or enjoy other activities. Tours of the plantation house by costumed guides will be available for an additional fee.

Live musical entertainment is included in the admission fee. The schedule includes Jude LeBlanc from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday followed by Summer Breeze at 1 p.m. Sunday’s schedule features Kayla Woodson and Louisiana Lightning from 10 a.m. to noon followed by Local Option 2 at 1 p.m.

Biz fest and health fair March 13 - 14

BOUTTE - The 2009 St. Charles Business Association’s Business Fest and Health Fair will be held on March 13 from noon to 5 p.m and March 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hahnville High School.

Car show benefits Relay for Life

BOUTTE - The associates of Wal-Mart 2913 present the first annual Relay for Life car show hosted by Louisiana Custom Cruisers, Inc. and Louie’s Wrecker Service on March 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Registration is from 8 a.m. to noon. Early entry fee is $20, day of the show registration is $25. All early entries must be received by Feb. 28.

Anything on wheels is welcome - cars, trucks, bikes, custom bikes, low riders, antiques street rods and boats.
