A year ago my neighbor, Renee Riddick, went to work at Memorial Hospital as Katrina rolled ashore near Buras. She was on call that stormy weekend as a newborn nurse. Husband David decided to take their three girls to Austin, TX to ride out the storm.

Last year, many trees that grew on or near the Willowridge levee were downed by Hurricane Katrina. Public works assistant director Poochie Cheramie was concerned that their uprooting may have damaged the levee. Westbank residents still waiting for levees

NEW ORLEANS - Human resources officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) report that more than 500 additional jobs will be available for Louisiana residents to help with the recovery of the state from the effects of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

When he heard Ye Publisher and his wife toured the devastation in New Orleans via Louisiana National Guard helicopter soon after Katrina, he pleaded - - “Please, please, next time, take me along.”

River Region Ballet to hold auditions

DESTREHAN, La. – The River Region Ballet will hold open auditions for the 2006-2007 season for dancers ages 7 and up on Sat., Sept. 9. This year, RRB will perform its annual production of “The Nutcracker” in December and a mixed bill spring concert titled “Celebrating Diverse Cultures” in March to commemorate St. Charles Parish’s bicentennial year. New Orleans natives Eleanor Bernard Carney and Ian Carney will perform with the company as guest artists this year.
