•Ashley R. Benensky, 17, of 105 Zachary Dr. in Boutte was arrested on Sept. 12 on Hwy 90 in Luling and charged with possession of a schedule two controlled dangerous substance to wit crack cocaine. Benensky was stopped for suspicious drug activity and further investigation revealed the subject to be in possession of crack cocaine.

Companion of Sandra LeGrande, Father of Clint Octave Loupe, Jacob Andrew Loupe and Brandi Louise Loupe. Brother of Melanie Triche, Brother-in-law of Chris Triche, Father-in-law of Tabitha Matthews, Uncle of Caitlin Triche. Age 49 years. A native of Raceland and a resident of Des Allemands. Relatives and friends of the family were invited to attend a mass of christian burial on Thurs., Sept. 14 at 11 p.m. at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands. Interment St. Gertrude Cemetery. Visitation was at the St. Gertrude Catholic Church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until funeral. Falgout Funeral Home LLC was in charge of arrangements.

I recently traveled to meet with our courageous Louisiana soldiers stationed in Iraq and survey the progress being made by the new Iraqi government. My trip was both productive and sobering. The trip provided me with vivid clarity of the great challenge we are facing defending our nation, as well as the progress we have made since September 11, 2001.

Last Tuesday, a large number of states held their Congressional primaries leading up to the November elections. For months, the conventional wisdom among pundits and prognosticators has been that the Republicans will lose control of the House of Representatives in Washington and could lose the Senate, as well. Six weeks is still an eternity in an election, but the trends afoot don't seem to back up the conventional wisdom. Can the Republicans still lose both the House and the Senate? Absolutely. Some critics outside of the Democratic circles would even argue that they should lose in order to be brought back to their senses, especially on fiscal issues.
