|Annual Kid Krewe de Market set to roll at Ormond Plantation

DESTREHAN - Kid Krewe de Market will roll at the German Coast Farmers' Market on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 10 a.m. at Ormond Plantation, the East Bank site of the Farmers' Market.
Decorated wagons with members ages 8 and under will parade through the market booth area whirling Mardi Gras throws.
First and second place prizes will be awarded to the most attractive "floats."
To participate in the parade, the decorated wagon must be pulled by an adult and the rider (age 8 or under) must provide his/her own throws.
Entrance fee is $5. Participants are asked to arrive at the Parade Registration Table, located near the rear of the Market, at 9:30a.m. to sign-up.
All are invited to attend the Farmers' Markets between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon every Saturday morning at Ormond Plantation on River Road in Destrehan.
The Wednesday West Bank Market is also open every Wednesday from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Fresh produce, citrus, wines, jellies, honey, fresh and smoked rotiserrie meats, kettle corn, pestos, pepper jelly, gourmet rice, Mediterranean cuisine, jambalaya, pastalaya, gourmet sandwiches, specialty breads, scented candles, soaps, plants, herbs, pastries, king cakes, and more are available at your local German Coast Farmers' Markets.

HAHNVILLE - The parish’s annual Martin Luther King Birthday Celebration Parade will be held on Monday, Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. beginning at the West Bank Bridge Park and followed by a special program at the parish courthouse.
The program will feature speakers, entertainment, drill teams and much, much more.

LULING - KC Council 9933 will sponsor a baked chicken dinner in the Parish Center on Sunday, Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. until they sell out of food.
The menu consist of baked chicken, dirty rice, peas, salad and bread. Dessert will be available.
Cost is $7 per meal. Take out dinner is available.
Proceeds will go to support council activities during 2008.
|Masquerade ball to help fund church’s mission trip

DESTREHAN - Pull out your calendar and mark Jan. 19 as the night you will go out, enjoy yourself and “have a ball” - literally!
The St. Charles United Methodist Church’s Mexico Mission Team is hosting its first annual Masquerade Ball on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. to raise money for upcomping trips to Reynosa and Tampico, Mexico.
The ball will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the church located at 1905 Ormond Blvd. Donations of $10 are being accepted for admission prior to the event or you can pay $12 at the door.
Recommended attire is dressy to formal and everyone is encouraged to wear a mask.
And to make sure your dancing shoes don’t miss a beat, the church will be hosting free dance lessons on Friday, Jan. 11 in the Sunday School Building and on Saturday, Jan. 12 in the Fellowship Hall. Both sessions begin at 7 p.m.
All proceeds will fund expenses for medical and construction teams scheduled to travel to Mexico on May 27 and May 31.

LULING - The St. Charles Art Guild is holding a water media workshop called “Acquiring a Sound and Useful Understanding of color on Jan. 14 - 16, 2008 at the First Union Presbyterian Church on Lakewood Dr. in Luling.
The workshop instructor, Diane St. Germain of Slidell, has participated in many shows and has been honored with many awards.
St. Germain’s approach to teaching color theory is to raise the awareness of color temperature - warms and cools - as the key to seeing color and believes that one must see the relationship between colors relative to visual warmth and coldness to best capture the subject on paper or canvas.
Students of the workshop will explore how to get better control over manipulating hues, values and intensities of LULING - The St. Charles Art Guild is holding a water media workshop called “Acquiring a Sound and Useful Understanding of the colors on their palette.
There will be exercises in exploring how to mix beautiful grays, tints and shadows, and the importance of using complimentary colors will be studied as it relates to intensifying the glow of color or lowering its intensity.

DESTREHAN - St. Charles Parish area junior golfers ages 12 to 18 are invited to compete in the Carter Plantation Golf Club in Springfield on Saturday, Jan. 12 and Sunday, Jan. 13.
The two-day, 36-hole tournament is ranked by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard and hosted by the Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour.
All players will receive a free practice round on Friday, Jan. 11 and enjoy unlimited range balls throughout the weekend.

NORCO - The River Region Ballet will hold open auditions for their spring production, Cinderella, on Saturday, Jan. 5 at the River Region Performing Arts & Cultural Center located at 151 46 River Road in Norco.
A variety of roles are available for all levels of expertise. Auditions for girls ages 6 to 8-years-old will be held from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and for girls ages 9 to 12 years olds from 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

When the monks at St. Joseph Abbey began crafting cypress coffins in 2007, they did not know that the practice would cause a state association to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to rule against their ability to engage in the craft.
