Sweetheart dance at fire department

DES ALLEMANDS - The Des Allemands Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Sweetheart Dance on Saturday, Feb. 14 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the fire station located at 16960 Highway 90 in Des Allemands.

The dance is open to kids 12 to 17 years of age. Parents are required to sign the child into and out of the dance. Admission is $5. Concessions will be sold.

Kid’s parade rolls at farmers’ market

DESTREHAN - The Kid Krewe du market will roll at the German Coast Farmers’ Market on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 10 a.m. at Ormond Plantation.

Decorated wagons with krewe members ages 10 and under will parade through the market booth area whirling Mardi Gras throws. First and second place prizes will be awarded to the “Best of Show.”

To participate, the decorated wagon must be pulled by an adult and the rider must provide his/her own throws.
Entrance fee is $5. Participants are asked to arrive between 9 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. to sign up.

Fundraiser for man hit by drunk driver

LULING - In an effort to raise money for Dennis Mahler's family, Jambalaya dinners and Domino's pizzas will be sold at a fundraiser on Feb. 13 at 4:30 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Luling and at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan. Dennis's vehicle was struck by a drunk driver on Jan. 4.

He remains in critical condition at University Hospital.

Dinners include jambalaya, white beans, peas and bread. They will be sold for $7. Large Domino's cheese and pepperoni pizzas will be sold for $10.Read More...
