Co-ed softball benefit Sept. 20

DES ALLEMANDS - Michael A. Rembert Sr. was diagnosed with multiple myeloma - an incurable, but treatable blood plasma cancer. Because he is undergoing a bone marrow transplant, he is unable to work and is now uninsured.

In an effort to help Rembert and his family with some medical expenses, residents are forming a co-ed softball benefit in Des Allemands on Sept. 6. The entry fee per team is $150. Ages 15 and up are able to participate.

Food, raffles and music will also be available.

Ballet auditions rescheduled

NORCO - The River Region Ballet will hold auditions for this yearís performance of the Nutcracker on Saturday, Sept. 20 at the River Region Performing Arts and Cultural Center located at 15146 River Road in Norco.

Auditions for acting roles boys and girls ages 7 to 10 is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. There is an audition fee of $10.

All dancers must sign 30 minutes prior to audition time.
Intermediate and advanced dancers who are interested in becoming a member of the balletís company or junior company may call the artistic director to schedule auditions.

Junior company members must be 10-years-old before Dec. 31 and dance at an intermediate level. Company members must be 13-years-old and female dancers must dance on pointe at an intermediate or advanced level.

Local baseball team hosts dance

LULING - The Louisiana Heat, a 12-year-old baseball team, is sponsoring a dance at the VFW Hall in Luling on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 8 a.m. to midnight.

The team is using the dance as a fundraiser to raise money to defray costs for a trip to Cooperstown, NY in July 2009.

The dance will feature music by Local Option II. Tickets are $20. Cost includes finger foods and setups. Bring your own liquor.
