‘Plop Drop’ to benefit center

LAPLACE - The Greater New Orleans Therapeutic Riding Center is planning its unusual, but popular, “Plop Drop” festival May 9 from noon to 4 p.m. at the facility, 152 Shadow Brook Lane in LaPlace.

Anita Hartzell, the center’s founder and director, said the family event will include food, music, games and a plop drop.

In the plop drop, the arena will be divided into 400 segments. Each square will be sold for $10. Participants will have a chance to win $1,000 if a horse “plops” on his or her square, Hartzell said.

There will be two sets of 400 tickets, with two $1,000 winners. Winners do not need to attend the event. Among other activities being planned are a chicken drop, and other games.

Proceeds will benefit the center, which provides riding lessons to children and adults with disabilities. It serves the New Orleans area.
