Room unveiled at historic Plantation

The Grand Opening of the Herbert J. Harvey Jr. Legacy Room will be featured at a celebration of the 250th Anniversary of Jean Noel Destrehan’s birth on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Destrehan Plantation.

The event begins with the ribbon cutting of the new exhibit space, consisting of original family documents and artifacts from Azby Destrehan and other Destrehan family members.

The celebration is open to the public and will feature tours of the plantation house and other exhibit viewings. Admission to the event is $5 for adults, with free admission for ages 17 and under. Tickets are available the day of the event.

Ballet presents “The Nutcracker”

DESTREHAN - The River Region Ballet will present its 15th production of the Christmas classic “The Nutcracker” on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m.

The full-length, storybook ballet will feature professional guest artists and New Orleans natives Eleanor and Ian Carney as the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Cavalier as well as the Snow Queen and King. Tickets are $15 and may be reserved by calling (504) 202-7706. All performances are at Destrehan High School Auditorium at #1 Wildcat Lane in Destrehan.
