Gov. Kathleen Blanco changed the political atmosphere in Louisiana considerably Tuesday night when she announced she would not seek re-election. Instead, she would pay all of her attention to getting Louisiana out of the many quagmires that have existed since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita laid their tolls.

One lesson that Iíve drawn from the 2008 Presidential campaign is that America needs a fresh face. As much as Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama may try to portray themselves as agents of change, they so monopolize the media spotlight that many of us have already grown weary of them and their rhetoric.

Last week after this newspaper extolled on the need to quick start coastal restoration projects if we are to save south Louisiana, we learned that groups planning the restoration have different views on how it is to be done. Scientists have criticized the preliminary draft of the Coastal Restoration and Protection Authority as being confusing and misleading.

Jesse Denton, Sr.
Jesse L. "Josh" Denton, Sr. of Destrehan "New Sarpy." A native of Calhoun County, Mississipi, passed into eternal glory on Wednesday Feb. 28 at 8:00PM. Born Sept. 9, 1921, he was 85 years old. He leaves his wife of 66 Ĺ years, Virgina P. Denton; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Donald Clarke of Hammond. 2 sons and daughters-in-law; Jesse L. Denton, Jr. and Barbra of Ducala, GA and Thomas H. Denton and Diane of Baton Rouge; 7 grandchildren; Sherry G. Dickens of Waxahchie, TX. Kim B. Hendrix of Tueplo, MS. 1 sister, Jane LaBorne of Morgan City and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a preceded by his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Hammond Denton; and 1 brother Elliss H. Denton of Slate Springs, MS. He was a U.S. Army WWII Veterans, a mason of over 50 years. He retired from T.L. James Co., Inc. and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kenner. He was in the care of Cannon Hospice for the past year. Thanks to them for his good care. A special thanks to family and friends and Cannon Hospice- Dr. Persige, Sandy, Tennecia, Kim and Crissy.
