Close to the end of the recently completed legislative session, the Legislature—obviously with the support of the governor—stiffed the taxpayers of Louisiana for $300 million. Perhaps it was hard to notice this obscene gesture cast in our direction because of the stampede of spending going on at the same time. However, it deserves to be noticed by everyone who pays taxes in any form or fashion to the state treasury.

Lauren Lemmon has been named Rotarian of the Year for 2006-2007. Lauren has been active in the St. Charles Rotary Club for six years, and has served on the Board as chairman of the Club Service Committee. She chaired the first annual Gatorganza and the annual Rotary golf tournament. She has also worked at the annual Alligator Festival and assisted in other rotary club events that support the community throughout the year.

NORCO - The 20th Annual Spillway Classic Trail Run will be held on Sunday, July 22 in Norco starting at 8 a.m. The 3-mile trail run is the largest in the south and is sponsored by the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency.

Registration begins for before and after school care program for children
St. Charles Parish Public Schools Before and After School Care Program serves only school-aged children in grades kindergarten through sixth grade. The cost of this service is $2 per child per day for morning care and $5 per child per day for after school care (until 6 p.m.). Before school care begins at 6 a.m. at Luling Elementary, St. Rose Elementary, Songy Kindergarten and New Sarpy Elementary and at 6:30 a.m. at R. J. Vial Elementary and Norco Elementary. If both before and after school care is desired, the fee is $7 per child per day.
