LULING - The St. Charles Community Health Center in Luling and Second Harvest will sponsor a food distribution July 26 from 9 a.m. to noon across the street from the center at 853 Milling Ave.
Participants must bring a photo ID and proof of income in the form of a pay stub, letter from Medicare, tax returns or other documentation. Call 985-785-5800 for more information.
Volunteers are needed to assist with the food distribution. Two crews are needed to work from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

|Become election commissioner

A course of instruction will be held for any St. Charles Parish resident who is interested in serving as a Commissioner or a Commissioner-in-Charge for elections that began on July 1 and will last through July 1, 2012.
The class will be offered on July 21 at 2 p.m., July 23 at 6 p.m. and July 25 at 10 a.m. All classes will be held in the office of the Clerk of Court in Hahnville. This course will qualify each resident who completes it for a four-year period and they will not have to take the course again until 2012.
Interested residents must be a registered voter in the district where they live, must need no assistance to vote, must be able to open and close a voting machine without assistance and must complete all election forms correctly.
Residents won't qualify for the classes if they have been convicted of an election offense or are a candidate for election to public office.
Current Commissioners and Commissioners-in-Charge are required to attend one of the classes in order to be recommissioned.

|Sheriff offers hunter education

KILLONA - The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office will offer tone hunter education course session to the public on Friday, July 25 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday, July 26 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The course is designed for young hunters seeking to obtain their first hunting license as well as hunters who seek to acquire an out of state license.
All classes will be held at the Richard Benoit Memorial Firearms Range located behind the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center in Killona.
Participants will be required to complete one weekend class for certification purposes.

|Drama guild hosts summer workshop

NORCO - The River Region Drama Guild is offering a free 8-night theater workshop for students 10 to 18 years old.
The workshop will be held July 21 through 24 continuing to July 28 through 31 at the River Region Performing Arts and Cultural Center located at 15146 River Road in Norco.
The workshop will meet for two hours each evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and culminates with a one-time-only performance on July 31 at 7 p.m.

DES ALLEMANDS - St. Gertrude Catholic Church will sponsor vacation Bible school July 21-25 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the church in Des Allemands.

KENNER - In celebration of IHOP Restaurant’s 50th birthday, the IHOP Discover America Road Tour is crossing the nation to celebrate two American classics – pancakes and baseball.
An IHOP-branded RV will travel more than 8,500 miles to visit Minor League Baseball parks in 27 cities bringing cheer, games and giveaways.
The RV will make a stop in New Orleans on July 19 at 6 p.m. and July 20 at 2 p.m., entertaining fans as the New Orleans Zephyrs vs. Albuquerque Isotopes.

|Banquet held to benefit scholarship

BOUTTE - The annual D.R.E.A.M. Inc. banquet, held in honor of Don Raymond - a former Hahnville High School student, will be held on Saturday, July 19 at 7 p.m. at the Glen Dorsey Multi-Purpose Building located at 13665 Old Spanish Trail in Boutte.
The event is the main fundraiser for the Don Raymond scholarship which is awarded to a St. Charles Parish student each May.
Musical entertainment by the Worship Squad and the People of Praise is scheduled along with guest speaker Rev. Torin Sanders of the Sixth Baptist Church in New Orleans.
Visitors will also get a sneak peek preview of Glenn Singleton’s Don Raymond documentary.

|Register to vote, learn how to use new machines at parish post offices

Next week is Voter Education Week, and the Registrar of Voters will conduct registration drives at post offices around the parish.
The office will also demonstrate how to use the voting machines used for early voting and will mail informational postcards to all households for the upcoming fall elections. The registration drives will be held on July 15 at the Boutte Post Office, July 16 at the Destrehan Post Office and July 17 at the St. Rose Post Office.
Registration will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at each location.
Voter Education Week is held to remind voters of the major changes going into effect for the fall elections. During the week of July 14-18, Secretary of State Jay Dardenne will join election officials throughout the state in spreading the message of closed congressional primaries and the importance of accurate voter registration.
Louisianians will vote in closed primaries for the first time in decades beginning with the Sept. 6, 2008 1st Party Primary for all seven Congressional Districts and the U.S. Senate race. The 2nd Party Primary will follow on Oct. 4, the same day as voters will choose many local leaders, such as district attorneys and judges, in open primaries.

LULING - The Bible Center Church located at 422 Barton Ave. in Luling invites children ages 5 to 12 to our “Power Lab” where we will be "discovering Jesus' Miraculous Power."
Kids will experience songs, games, snacks, electrifying Bible adventures and much more.
Children will also participate in a missions project by collecting school supplies for two local elementary schools.
“Power Lab” begins July 14 and continues through July 18 at the church each day at 9 a.m. until noon.
