No BulliesAllowed Hip Hop at parish library

PARISHWIDE - On Tuesday, June 12 Rhythm/Soul Dance Productions will present No Bullies Allowed, an interactive Hip Hop dance show that teaches teens and tweens skills and methods to cope with all types of bullying.

Self-improvement, determination, problem solving, conflict resolution and confidence will all be discussed in the skits to teach kids how to overcome these issues on different aspects of bullying. The show also includes a dance workshop after the performance.

The show will be held at the following locations and times:
West Regional Library, 105 Lakewood Drive, Luling at 11:30 a.m.; Hahnville Branch, 14996 River Road, Hahnville at 1:30 p.m.; St. Rose Branch, 90 East Club Drive, St. Rose at 3:30 p.m.; East Regional Library, 160 West Campus Drive, Destrehan at 5:30 p.m.

Gas giveaway

DESTREHAN - Throughout the summer, King Jesus Ministries will be giving away thousands of dollars of free gas. The date of the first free gas giveaway is Sunday, June 10.

On Sunday, June 10, immediately after the morning worship service, King Jesus Ministries will be at the Shell Station at 14252 Highway 90 in Boutte, giving away $15-20 of free gas per vehicle until they have given away $1000 of gas.

They will also be doing free car washes and will have free Bar-B-Q available.

Art guild at Ormond farmer’s market

DESTREHAN - The St. Charles Parish Art Guild will be showing and selling art at the German Coast Farmer’s market at Ormond Plantation on Saturday, June 9.

The German Coast Farmer’s Market offers locally produced fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers and other items.
The market is held 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday at Ormond Plantion at 13786 River Road in Destrehan.

Annual Beach Sweep

ELMER”S ISLAND - The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in conjunction with Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program is calling for volunteers for their annual Elmer’s Island Beach Sweep on Saturday, June 2.

Enjoy a morning on the beach and in the dunes while cleaning up Elmer’s Island from 8 a.m. to noon.
Anyone can participate. Lunch and all necessary supplies will be provided.

Trash is often dumped directly into the Gulf of Mexico by careless recreational and commercial boaters, and is also left on site by beach-goers. This is the third annual event to rid the beach of this unsightly and harmful debris.
The original beach sweep this year was planned for May 17, but had to be cancelled due to heavy rains.

Pre-registration is encouraged, but not required. To register, contact Joe Dantin at (985)449-4715.

Free Health Screening

LULING - St. Charles Parish families are invited to attend the United Way of St. Charles Success by 6® Summer Kickoff at the St. Charles Community Health Center, 843 Milling Ave. in Luling, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. June 2.

United Way of St. Charles is partnering with the St. Charles Community Health Center and other community agencies to provide this event that will feature health and vision screenings, immunizations, school physicals, cooking demonstrations and other information and resources for parents.

An array of activities such as face painting, finger printing, Teddy Bear clinic, games and much more will be provided for children.

The Success by 6® Summer Kickoff is free for all families to attend. Attendees can win door prizes, including a laptop and an iPod. There will also be free food, books and other giveaways.

Football Camp at Hahnville High School

HAHNVILLE - Football camp will be held May 29 to 31 at the HHS Field House from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Football camp is open to boys aged 7-14. The cost is $50.00 and includes a t-shirt. Early registration packets may be picked up from the main office. Registration will also be held on Tuesday, May 29th beginning at 8:00 a.m. Campers should wear t-shirt, shorts, and either tennis shoes or football cleats. Sessions will be broken up into the following: Beginners Workshop - 10:30 a.m. to noon; Avid Play - 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A tournament is held every 4th Monday from10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Oldies But Goodies Dance

LULING - The Oldies But Goodies Dance will be held Sunday, May 20 at 375 Spruce St. in Norco.
White beans and smoked sausage will be served, please bring a side dish and your own beverages.

50/50 drawing and door prizes will be available. Line dancing will be from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. General dancing will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Volunteer firefighter’s free dance

Voter registration week

PARISHWIDE - The Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office is conducting Louisiana’s Annual Voter Registration Week May 14-18 throughout the State. All Louisiana residents 17 years old or older who are not registered to vote are encouraged to visit www.GeauxVote.com or to contact their local Registrars of Voters.

The St. Charles Parish Registrar of Voters Office will be conducting Voter Registration Drives at the following locations during Voter Education Week:

May 15: St. Rose Post Office at 17724 River Rd. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

May 17: Winn-Dixie at 12519 Hwy 61 in Destrehan, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

May 18: Walmart at 13001 Hwy 90 in Boutte from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Krewe of Zeus Charity Golf tournament

DESTREHAN - On Saturday, May 12 the Krewe of Zeus will host it’s first Annual Big SKILLz Golf Tournament & PigaPaLooza “Victory” Party at Cypress Lakes Country Club in Ormond Estates.

Big SKILLz and PigaPaLooza being the first of three major events to take place in 2012 as part of the 55-year-old Carnival Krewe’s “Bringing It” campaign which is centered around raising awareness for the needs and wants of children and young adults.

This year over 20 teams are invited to Cypress Lakes to compete for serious prizes including a Lexus, Harley Davidson Fatboy and Rides in the Krewe of Zeus and Krewe of Hera parades for Lundi Gras 2013.

The tournament will be four member team scramble starting at 1:30 p.m. followed by the evenings PigaPaLooza-a Greek Garb Pig Roast. Winning team gaining special reward and reign over the event.

Both events are open to the public 18 and older who want to make a difference. Registration fees for the tournament include food & drink on course, green fees, golf cart, and VIP entry to PigaPaLooza.

A portion of all ticket proceeds raised at the two events including raffle tickets & Mulligan sold on the course will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Make up day for summer camp registration

HAHNVILLE - St. Charles Parish Summer Camp Registration will be held from 9 a.m. until noon May 5 at the St. Charles Recreation Office, located at 171 Keller Street in Hahnville. Anyone interested in registering their children for camp is encouraged to come at that time.

The St. Charles Parish Summer Camp will also offer swimming one day a week at Ellington Swim Club, Luling Elementary Site only. Campers will enjoy the fun and excitement of swimming each week and on the 4th week of June they will be offered Swimming Lessons.
