Sergio Medina evades tacklers versus Parkway. Medina named top offensive player in district

After the Hahnville Tigers started off their football season 0-4, head coach Lou Valdin said he had never had a worse start in his 33 years as a coach. Then he switched senior Sergio Medina from middle linebacker to running back and the team won their next six games in a row, going undefeated in district play and making it to the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs.

There was little doubt who would be named Destrehan’s Defensive Player of the Year, but junior linebacker RaeJuan Marbley’s selection became official.

The Hahnville Tigers (6-5) came back from a two score deficit to lead the Parkway Panthers (11-1) late in the game, but could not hold off a late surge in the Panthers’ rushing game and ended up falling by a score of 28-31 to end their season.

The Hahnville Tigers are looking to pull off another playoff upset this week when they take on the No. 7 Parkway Panthers (10-1) at home.

Destrehan’s best offensive performance of the season wasn’t enough to get them past Hahnville last week, as the Wildcats saw their playoff hopes die and their season come to an end with a 47-44 loss in overtime.

Hahnville head coach Lou Valdin’s wish came true.

After beating John Ehret two weeks ago to clinch a playoff spot, Valdin said he did not want to play No. 3 West Monroe, the team that knocked Hahnville out of the first round of the playoffs last year.
