Holy Family jambalaya dinner

LULING - The Holy Family Youth Group will be selling jambalaya dinners on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church Life Center. The cost is $7 and will include jambalaya, potato salad, peas and bread. Desserts and drinks will also be sold. Take out is available. Proceeds will help defray the cost of attending spiritual rallies, conferences and other events throughout the year.

Special Olympics held at bridge park

HAHNVILLE - The Bayouland Special Olympics is holding its annual Softball, T-ball and horseshoe tournament on Sept. 18 at the West Bank Bridge Park Fields 1 and 2. Check-in for athletes and coaches is at 8:30 a.m. with opening ceremonies starting at 9:30 a.m. Games begin around 10 a.m. Pastalaya will be served to all athletes and coaches, and concession stands will be open with drinks and food.

DESTREHAN - The Fifth African Baptist Church invites one and all to enter its annual Christian Car and Bike Show at the East Bank Bridge Park on Sept. 18 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Participants can enjoy delicious food and win one of many trophies.

American Legion blood drive

ST. ROSE - The American Legion Hall, 12188 River Road in St. Rose, will hold a blood drive on Sept. 18 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. All donors will receive a blood bank T-shirt, mini physical, cholesterol test, blood type and blood assurance package. Individuals taking medication for high blood pressure and cholesterol can donate.

MLK Jr. group holds scholarship banquet

BOUTTE - The 21st Annual “The Dreamer’s Dream” scholarship banquet will be held on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at the John L. Dorsey Multi-purpose Center, 13635 Old Spanish Trail in Boutte. The Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Organization of St. Charles Parish hosts the event. Guest speakers will be Felicia Rothchild, a human resources specialist, or Prince George of Maryland.
