I was quite excited when I found the invitation to the office Christmas party stuffed in my mailbox at work. I missed last year’s big bash because I couldn’t shake the nasty flu bug I had caught, so this year was my first chance to see what really happens when my co-workers let their hair down.

HOUMA - Suzuki of Houma’s Bayou Bike Fest 2007 will be held at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center located at 346 Civic Center Blvd. on Sunday, Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Beautiful properties on tour of homes

HOUMA - Four beautiful homes and properties will be on tour decorated for the Christmas holidays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2 for the 3rd annual Holiday Tour of Homes.

The homes are: Grand Bayou Noir Bed and Breakfast, 1143 Bayou Black Dr., owned by Judge and Mrs. Timothy Ellender; Larry and Maryann Boudreaux, 4936 Imperial Dr.; Mr. and Mrs. Chapman Burguieres, Jr., 4523 Highway 311; Black Star Ranch and Cottage, 1361 Bayou Blue Road, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Neil Suard.

Refreshments will be served at each home on the tour.

Plantation celebrates holidays with gala

DESTREHAN - Join the Destrehan Plantation staff as they celebrate the holiday season with a Joyeux Noel and Grand Ball on Friday, Dec. 7 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. where dances of the early 1800s will be taught and on Saturday, Dec. 8 for a candlelight tour of the plantation.
All dancers are required to wear period costumes.
Tickets: Friday and Saturday combo tickets are $30 per couple. Saturday only tickets are $10.

Local chorus rings in the holiday season

DESTREHAN - The Community Chorus of the River Parishes will present its annual Christmas dinner concerts at the Ormond Country Club in Destrehan on Friday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 8 with dinner starting at 7 p.m. and the concert following at 8 p.m.

Some of this year’s selections are: Angels We have Heard on High, Christmas Kum BaYa, Go Tell It On the Mountain, Blue Christmas, Breath of Heaven, Fa LaLa and The Hallelujah Chorus.

Parish Christmas tour on tap December 7

HAHNVILLE - The St. Charles Council on Aging will host their parish Christmas tour on Friday, Dec. 7.

Stops include: Destrehan Plantation for a presentation and Victorian Christmas customs, the Norco Activity Center for pictures with Santa, the New Sarpy Center for a chorus performance and caroling, a view of Ormond’s Christmas lights, St. Charles Parish Hospital for a special presentation and the Luling Activity Center for cookies and cocoa and a Christmas surprise.

Tour buses meet at the east and west bank bridge parks. The tour is by reservation only.

Family center holds internet safety class

LULING - The Title I Family Center and detective Joey Thibodeaux from the Juvenile Investigations Division of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office will hold an internet safety workshop on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Luling Elementary School cafeteria.

The purpose of the workshop is to provide parents and communities with an understanding of the key issues associated with online child predators and how to protect your children online.

Cost: FREE. Light refreshments will be served.

On Sept. 21, at 11:30 a.m., a woman leaving the CVS Pharmacy in Luling had her purse snatched from her shoulder while she was attempting to load merchandise into the trunk of her car. Police quickly apprehended Charles Baloney, 20, but his arrest led to a police officer being injured and allegations of police brutality.
