Luncheon will discuss economic outlook

GRAY - A presentation on the Louisiana Economic Outlook for 2011-2012 will be presented at a luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 7 at The Cypress Columns, 157 Tourist Drive in Gray. The presentation will focus on a regional perspective of trend and events that could affect the Bayou Region economy.

Cooks compete in Battle for the Paddle

LULING - The 9th Annual United Way of St. Charles Battle for the Paddle will take place on Oct. 7 at the West Bank Bridge Park. The jambalaya and gumbo cook-off allows teams across the region to compete to be named the “best.” The event kicks off the United Way’s annual fundraising campaign.

The event is open to the public from 4-7:30 p.m. and entry is $5, which includes all-you-can-eat gumbo and jambalaya, live music and more.

Registration for a team to compete is $75 per category.

Workshop for teachers

LULING - The LSU AgCenter will host a teacher workshop on Oct. 5 from 4-7 p.m. at the St. Charles AgCenter, 1313 Paul Maillard Road Suite E in Luling. The workshop will focus on agricultural learning for the classroom in pre-K through 8th grade. The workshop is free for all educators and will include a meal or refreshments, a take-home binder filled with lessons and ag-tivities. Teachers will also receive a certificate of attendance. Wetland Watchers park grand opening

ST. CHARLES PARISH - The long-awaited Wetland Watchers Park will open on Saturday, Oct. 2 with a program from noon-3 p.m. The program will include a performance by Amanda Shaw. The opening ceremony begins at 1 p.m. The park is located at the lake via the Spillway East Guide Levee. Proceeds from the event will benefit the oil spill relief. Crafts sale, auction

DES ALLEMANDS - A craft sale and auction will be held at the Father Mac Community Center in Des Allemands on Saturday, Oct. 2. From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., crafts, baked goods, donuts, woodwork and quilts will be available. From 1-4 p.m., an auction will take place. Lunch will be sold with choice of jambalaya or gumbo.
