BOUTTE - Believe it or not, more young people file for bankruptcy than graduate from college - and that's why St. Charles Parish School Board member-elect Alex Suffrin has named "financial-literacy classes" as a priority when he takes office in January.

Current Port of South Louisiana Commissioner and former St. Charles Parish Councilman Jay Roberts had such a knack for yanking up political signs BEFORE the September election that District Attorney Harry Morel has ordered him to keep up the good work AFTER the November vote.

Louisiana education officials released school performance scores just days ago and seven St. Charles Parish elementary schools received an impressive three-star ranking. They are: A.A. St. Charles Parish schools raked in the equivalent of an $88,000-plus (assessed) windfall when Chevron North American Exploration and Products Co. donated 43 acres of prime land to the school district just days ago.

St. Charles Parish Councilman Clayton Faucheux says the parish has no other choice - it must appropriate $20 million of its preliminary $90 million budget for fiscal 2007 to continue the construction of levees on the west bank.
