Tri-Parish Medicaid employees in St. John Parish have been making the rounds in St. Charles Parish placing applications and brochures at barber shops, hair salons, and community events every Saturday in June, to encourage residents to take advantage of free health insurance programs.

St. Charles Parish Council approved a proposal at its Monday night meeting that would allow the Valero Refinery to expand, creating 1,500 temporary construction jobs and 30 to 50 permanent jobs once the project is complete.

One or more burglars using a torch and other sophisticated equipment, drilled a hole in the roof-top, of the Economical Supermarket in Hahnville climbed in and stole $82,000 worth of payroll checks and an undisclosed amount of cash on the evening of May 31, the Herald-Guide has learned.
