| The DaVinci Con May 17, 2006 at 2:02 pm "A lie is halfway round the world while the truth is still putting its boots on." --- Mark Twain My first reaction to Dan Brown's novel, "The Da Vinci Code," was: "It's a work of fiction, a thriller, a page-turner. Everybody knows that." I was wrong. A young friend of mine met a classmate from Catholic high school who told him that she was seriously thinking of giving up her faith after reading "The Da Vinci Code." My friend said, "You'd give up your faith because of a novel?" She answered, "Oh, but it's all true!" |

| Spirit Letters May 17, 2006 at 1:58 pm Despite the assurances of a few well meaning but terribly misguided Christian Pastors, there is simply no reason to see “The DaVinci Code.” How could any Christian possibly be entertained by a story that cruelly mocks the Son of God and claims that He is not divine? That the Bible is a complete and total fraud? And that the Church that He founded is composed of leaders who are among the worst liars and most vile people in human history who sought to cover up God's marriage? |

| Good people, tough times May 17, 2006 at 1:48 pm Hurricanes Katrina and Rita impacted 81,000 businesses in the State of Louisiana, most of them small businesses. Unless you are in their shoes, it is difficult to understand what the affected small businesses are going through. Imagine for a moment that, in the span of 24 hours, your store or office is heavily damaged, your customer base is greatly reduced, your workforce is dispersed, and you find out that your insurance does not cover all of your losses. Those are just some of the problems that tens of thousands of small business owners are facing in the aftermath of the storms. |

Good Fellows May 17, 2006 at 1:46 pm In the deserts of Iraq, American soldiers bare the face of true bravery. The work they do, sometimes, represents a side of the Iraqi conflict that most never see. They are the faces standing behind you in line at the grocery store. They are the faces sitting next to you at the little league game. They are the faces that at first glance appear to blend in with the rest of the world. Although sometimes unknown, they are the true American heroes. |
