Local schools need your UPC labels

BOUTTE - Boutte Christian Academy and Allemands Elementary schools are collecting General Mills Box Tops for Education and Community Coffee UPC labels.

Boutte Christian Academy is also collecting empty printer cartridges, old cellular phones and fax machines.
To donate to Allemands Elementary, drop off tables will be at the school located on WPA road in Des Allemands or at Frank’s Supermarket.

‘Afternoon of Roses’ planned for April 27

BATON ROUGE - The LSU AgCenter invites you to an “Afternoon of Roses” at its Burden Center in Baton Rouge on April 27 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free to the public.
Activities include a presentation from horticulture professor Dr. Allen Owings, guided tours of the rose garden and light refreshments.

Blood drive held for Terry Vitrano

BOUTTE - A blood drive to collect replacement blood for Terry Vitrano, who is awaiting a liver transplant surgery will be held on Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wal-mart Super Center located at 13001 Highway 90 in Boutte.

The Ochsner bloodmobile will be on hand and all donors will receive a blood bank T-shirt, blood type identification, a mini physical and a cholesterol test.

All donors must have a picture ID.

Recreation camp registration April 26

DESTREHAN - The St. Charles Recreation Department will begin registration this week for its young recreation summer camp. For information, call the department at 985-783-5090.

Registration for the summer track program will be held April 26 at 10 a.m. at Destrehan High School.

Norco drama club presents play

NORCO - The drama club at Sacred Heart School in Norco will present three performances of Once Upon A Mattress to be held April 24 through 26 at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Tickets are now on sale in the school office or may be purchased at the door.

Adult tickets are $6 and student tickets are $3.

Des Allemands church holds dance

DES ALLEMANDS - St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands will host their monthly dance on Saturday, April 26 from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Father Mac Community Center in Des Allemands.

Music by Seabrook. Tickets are $15 per couple.

Members had to actually cook the dish at home and bring one-half of the food dish and a copy of the recipe to the contest. Judges judged the dish primarily based on taste. First place winners in the foods contests qualified for the District Cookery Contest in Houma.
