Register for Krewe of Lul before it’s too late

LULING - The Krewe of Lul will hold its fourth meeting on Feb. 2 at the Ramada Limited at 13889 River Road. Registration is $50 for fire trucks/emergency vehicles/show cars/ trucks, $400 for large floats and $300 for small floats. Feb. 16 is the final date for parade registration and payment. Registration costs will go up on Feb. 3. The Krewe of Lul parade will be on March 5 at noon.

Registration begins for Challenger program

ST. CHARLES PARISH - Boys and girls ages 5-18 are eligible to participate in the 2011 Baseball/Softball Challenger program.
Eastbank booster clubs will be at the Hurst Cafeteria on Feb. 1 from 6-7:30 p.m. There will be an Eastbank make-up day on Feb. 15 in the Head Start Cafeteria from 6-7:30 p.m.
Westbank booster clubs will be at Landry Middle on Feb. 2 from 6-7:30 p.m. A Westbank make-up day will be held on Feb. 16 at Landry from 6-7:30 p.m.
Booster club fees will be collected the day of the registration, The date used to determine age is Jan. 1 for girls and April 30 for boys.
The last day of registration is Feb. 18 until 3:30 p.m. at the St. Charles Parish Recreation Office.

Man vs. bull at 10th annual riding challenge

HOUMA - The 10th annual Enterprise Products’ “Fear No Evil” bull riding challenge will be held on Jan. 29 at the Houma Civic Center. The event kicks off at 8 a.m. with a 4-H livestock show. A kids’ pre-show party will start at 6 p.m. with the main show starting at 7:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by Red Fish Rental and Louisiana Machinery. Fifty bulls will face off with 40 cowboys from around the country for an eight-second battle for cash. After the bull riding show, a free post show concert and dance will be held with Good Feelins’ Band. Tickets are $15-$24, with kids getting $3 off. Tickets increase by $2 on day of show. Oil, gas drilling unlikely to return to normal

Left entirely to the whims of the Obama administration, there is little hope that oil and gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico will remotely resemble the pre-moratorium activity levels any time soon. The regulatory agencies that oversee energy production are expanding faster than a bad fungus in a rain forest, but none of the expansion is fostering a return to energy exploration and production in the Gulf. In fact, it appears to be having just the opposite impact.
