Escape stress, burdens with church course

BOUTTE - Are you shackled by the everyday burdens of life: pain, disappointments, stress, indecision or financial issues? Life Church is offering an opportunity to learn how to break those shackles in its Spring Alpha Course beginning Feb. 23.

A friendship dinner will kick off the course, which includes dinner, laughter and learning as they explore the true meaning of life and how each can each make a “Great Escape.” The course is free and will continue for 10 weeks. Each week will include a dinner, talk and small group discussion on topics such as “Who is Jesus?”, “Why did Jesus die?” and “Who is the Holy Spirit?”

Information session for disabled employees

LAPLACE - The Arc of St. Charles in partnership with the Louisiana DD Council invites residents to attend an informational session about employment of persons with disabilities. “Discovering the Benefits of Competitive Employment” will focus on dispelling the fears and reducing the barriers of employment for persons with disabilities.

The session is aimed at parents of children ages 14 and up and adults with disabilities. The event will be held at the LaPlace Library, 1801 W. Airline Highway, on Feb. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon. Refreshments will be served.

Celebrate Mardi Gras with the library

DESTREHAN - The East Regional Library will be hosting a number of events to get kids ready for Mardi Gras.
Make, bake and take your own mini king cake at the library in Destrehan on Feb. 19 from 10 a.m.-noon. The program is for children ages 4 and up. Contact Julia at (985)764-2366 for more information.

There will also be a Tween Mardi Gras Mask Designing event on Feb. 25 from 10 a.m.-noon. The program is for kids ages 8-12 and each person will get a Mardi Gras mask to wear or display in their room. Contact Candee or Brenda at (985)764-2366 for more information.

The library branch will also host “Throw me something mister!” on March 2 from 6-7 p.m. where kids ages 4 and up can decorate bead wreaths.
