A semi-truck filled with food items will arrive in Des Allemands at the park located near First Assembly Church, on Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Families who are in need of financial help are invited to pick-up bags of free groceries as part of a community relief effort sponsored by the Convoy of Hope.
|Cox Cable not going anywhere

The St. Charles Parish council introduced an ordinance at its Nov. 5 meeting to extend Cox Cable's contract agreement for one more year, which will allow the parish more time to consider other cable television providers. Cox's nonexclusive cable franchise agreement with the parish expires Dec. 31.

Like I said in the past, I'm not opposed to gaming, if that is what people want to do with their spare time and money. I introduced the ordinance that I created because I wanted to see a venue where the public and the council could have input into the process.

Since Hurricane Katrina hit more than two years ago, the healthcare system in New Orleans has been in critical condition. Doctors and hospitals have absorbed patients, both insured and uninsured, who previously relied on the Charity system in the greater New Orleans area.

It looks like St. Charles Parish will be well represented in the upcoming session of the state legislature. Dem. Sen. Joel Chaisson II apparently will serve as Senate president, having secured the backing of many Democratic and Republican senators and also the endorsement of Rep. Gov. Elect-Bobby Jindal.
