The world seems to be failing measurably in trying to replace fossil fuel with renewable sources of fuel. There is no indication that solar power is about to take over the gigantic task of fueling our homes and industries.

Billions of dollars are at stake for Louisiana as the Restore Act that would provide that amount in the BP oil spill recovery flounders in Congress. The act would provide 80 percent of the oil fines recovered by the government in the spill to the four states seriously affected by it.

It seems that Louisiana may have a shot after all in determining who will be Republican nominee for President and thus get a chance to become leader of the world’s greatest democracy. That fact was somewhat confirmed when three of the four main candidates made plans to campaign in the state during the remaining two weeks before the primary election here on March 24.

Carnival time is here again and St. Charles Parish is looking forward to a big weekend ahead. The Krewes of Lul and Des Allemands are set to roll and will have plenty of favors to spread around. Plus, there will be a lot of merry-making and feasting on the streets of Luling Saturday and Des Allemands Sunday.

If St. Charles Parish School Board members were to take off for Hawaii and other exotic destinations with bathing suits in hand claiming to be taking care of their official business, one would suspect that they are fiddling with taxpayer money. But such does not seem to be the case.

At last, a master plan for the restoration of Louisiana’s coast has been planned and is available for public review. It shows what the coast should be like in 2061 if the restoration is accomplished.

Anyone who lives in southeast Louisiana can take pleasure in the fact that there are so many entertaining things coming up here. In St. Charles Parish, for example, there is a wealth of wetlands for the outdoor sportsmen and mere lovers of spectacular scenery. Access to the Gulf of Mexico and some of the best fishing and hunting areas in the country is readily available whether you own a yacht or a pirogue.
