|New park draws thanks
April 26, 2006 at 11:33 am
Nearly 8 years ago my science students at Hurst Middle adopted the site where the spillway's East Guide Levee meets Lake Pontchartrain as part of the LaBranche Wetland Watchers Service-Learning Project. It was a popular dumping spot where we found many washing machines, dryers, and refrigerators. The students took pride in the spot, planted many trees and worked with community leader Milton Cambre to plan out a nature trail in the area. Not only will this site have the first public nature trails in this region, it will also include an outdoor classroom, raised wooden decked trails, a fishing pier, sheltered picnic tables, a playground for children, and eventually real restrooms!

In more than 60 years of reading the Herald and Herald-Guide, I have never seen a more wrong-headed editorial than the one written by Allen Lottinger in the edition of April 20, 2006.

Attention To The Powers that be:

To The People Of St. Charles:
We, the Hitt Family, Ann, Al, Tazz and Zachary, want to say how grateful we are for everything that the community has done for us.
|Careless drivers, not bad roads the cause
March 29, 2006 at 1:13 pm
To the Editor:
Nowhere in Susanne Hinkle's article "Death Trap" did she state the reasons for the deaths of drivers and passengers in the canal that runs alongside Airline Drive through St. Charles Parish. Those reasons are excessive speed, carelessness and inattentiveness and poor education and driving skills.

Don’t demolish old school building
The purpose of this letter is to voice our concern over the recent decision by the St. Charles Parish School Board to demolish the Luling Elementary building on Ellington, one of the few remaining historical landmarks in St. Charles Parish.
