Here’s a simple plan to save our coast

To the editor:

This letter is in response to Allen Lottinger’s article about Louisiana’s deteriorating coast. He was one of the first writers to write about the problems caused by the Mississippi River levee system. I agree with the fact that “Building of levees along the Mississippi River was the main cause of the erosion of our coast...” How can we get the politicians to listen to simple suggestions about how to correct this problem?

The Louisiana Tax Commission (LTC) ordered a reassessessment of St. Charles Parish for 2007 because our ratio study was 8.9 percent. A passing grade is 9 percent.

In the Jan. 18, 2007 issue of your newspaper, the St. Charles Parish school board said if voters fail to renew two separate millages on March 31, 2007, schools could go bankrupt or close and teachers might have to be fired.
