| St. Rose Volunteer Fire Department giving out free smoke detectors February 16 at 10:29 am St. ROSE - The Saint Rose Volunteer Fire Department is currently issuing and installing smoke detectors free of charge to all residents in the 5th Fire District in St. Rose. The smoke detectors are free and the fire department will install them for free as well. Contact them at nmonk@saintrosevfd.org or via their website at www.saintrosevfd.org where a downloadable form for the program is available. Those interested can also call (504) 467-9536, (504) 559-9620 or stop by the station located at 123 Saint Rose Ave., Station 51 any time between the hours of 8 a.m-4 p.m on Monday through Friday. |

| Annual men’s day at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church January 27 at 2:06 pm NORCO - Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church is holding its annual men’s day on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. Rev. D.B. Mollaire and the Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church invite all to attend. This year’s theme is “Christian men as ambassadors for Christ” - Corinthians 5:20. The guest speaker for the occasion is Pastor C.Z. Mollaire of the Second African Baptist Church of Edgard. Honorees for this event include Glenn Ford, Norman Singleton, Minister Roosevelt Piper and Frank Myles. The church is located at 13 East St. in Norco. | Stargaze with Big Bird at Planetarium January 26 at 2:05 pm DES ALLEMANDS - The Luling Branch Library is holding a film showing of “One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure.” The story introduces young children to the wonders of stargazing with Big Bird and Elmo as their guide. They will join Elmo and his friend from China, Hu Hu Zhu, on an imaginary trip to the Moon and learn how it differs from our home, the Earth. The approximate show length is 30 minutes and will begin at 10 a.m. on Jan. 26. Doors open 15 minutes prior to the scheduled showtime. Due to the unusual lighting conditions in the planetarium, no one is allowed to enter once the show has started. The Luling Branch Library is located at 105 Lakewood Drive in Luling. |

| St. Gertrude Catholic dance January 26 at 2:05 pm DES ALLEMANDS - St. Gertrude Catholic Church will hold a dance Saturday, Jan. 26 beginning at 8 p.m. Cost for entry is $15. | Free tennis clinic January 26 at 2:04 pm LULING - The St. Charles Parish Tennis Program will provide a free clinic on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 8 a.m. at the Monsanto Tennis Facility. The event is open to adults and mature teens and will focus on how to conduct team practices for Junior Team Tennis. No registration is required and anyone interested in Junior Tennis is invited to attend. No previous tennis experience is required. | Adult craft workshop January 25 at 2:04 pm LULING - The Luling Library will hold an adult craft workshop on Friday, Jan. 25 from 10:30 a.m. - noon. The workshop is the first in a series of monthly craft programs aimed at adults. Participants will construct bags from T-shirts. Library officials say the bags are good for carrying library books, groceries or even Mardi Gras beads you’ll be catching during carnival season. Materials will be provided. Participants in the Wii sports showdown will challenge each other to games of Madden football, beach volleyball, water skiing and backyard football. | Sheriff’s Office shooting range open to public October 13, 2012 at 9:10 am KILLONA - The St. Charles Parish Range will be open to the public for shooting rifles only. Remaining range dates for 2012 are October 13 and 20. Range hours will be 8 a.m–11 a.m. and noon–4 p.m each day. The following range rules must be followed by participants: -Report to the firearms instructor prior to removing any weapons from the vehicles. -Weapons are to be transported to the range in a suitable transportation device. -No weapons will be brought to the range in a loaded condition. -All safety and liability forms must be filled out and signed prior to firing. -No one under the age of 17 will be allowed to shoot on the range without supervision of a parent or guardian. A parent or guardian must sign the liability form. -Proper identification is required to present to the firearms instructors. All participants are required to bring their own targets, safety glasses, hearing protection, ammunition, staples and a staple gun.
