On Aug. 24 at approximately 2 a.m., a 32-year-old Paradis man was robbed at knife-point at a local bank located on River Road in Destrehan as he attempted to make a night deposit for his employer.

A year ago my neighbor, Renee Riddick, went to work at Memorial Hospital as Katrina rolled ashore near Buras. She was on call that stormy weekend as a newborn nurse. Husband David decided to take their three girls to Austin, TX to ride out the storm.

Mark Gauthreau, 44, of 42298 N. Wood St., Gonzales, was arrested and charged with two counts of first degree attempted murder and hate crimes on Aug. 21 after he allegedly shot and wounded two Hispanic men from Texas.

Deadline for voter registration is Aug. 30 at the registrar of voters office in the courthouse in Hahnville. The open primary election for the St. Charles Parish school board and U. S. Congressmen will be held on Sept. 30, and the general election for both is scheduled for Nov. 7. Constitutional amendments will also be voted upon.
