The St. Charles Parish School Board is expected to give the go-ahead for the purchase of the old K-Mart building on Hwy. 90 in Boutte. Shortly before Katrina, the school system had rented and utilized the building for storage and currently seeks to purchase the building for a cost of approximately $1 million.

Last May, Lt. Pamela Schmitt, an animal control officer with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office, responded to calls from several motorists who witnessed an eagle along the roadside in Des Allemands thatappeared to be injured.

In a domestic dispute gone wrong, a Lutcher man became enraged at the sight of his ex-wife speaking with another man. Coty Foreman, 24, 2403 N. Central St., Lutcher, then fired a gun at his estranged wife's boyfriend’s car.

|St. Charles Parish School System employees to get one-time bonuses

The St. Charles Parish School Board approved one-time bonus payments to all full and part time employees at the board's June 21 meeting.
Bonuses include a one-time payment of $1,000 to full time employees and $500 to part time employees. This one time bonus is in addition to the planned 5 percent teacher raise expected to be approved by the School Board at its July 5 board meeting.

From the beginning, the proceeds of the St. Charles Alligator Festival were dedicated to Rotary charities, parularly the scholarship program.
In 1980, Sharon Mecum was awarded the first scholarship of $250 per year. Since she would study for four years, that was a $1,000 commitment. Every year since that time it has grown, mainly due to money made at the yearly Alligator Festival. Since Katrina took care of last year’s festival, a Gatorganza was organized to help with the funding and this year an amazing $34,000 commitment was made for scholarships. To date some 160 students were helped with $339,500 in scholarship money.
