Nationwide, along with two other school districts, Superintendent Dr. Rodney Lafon and Director of Public Information Rochelle Cancienne were recognized for their performance during Hurricane Katrina. Winners of the Grace Under Fire Award at the American Association of School Administrators’ (AASA) annual conference, the St. Charles Parish School District receives a $10,000 endowment.

Businesses will again challenge St. Charles Parish School System for the highly coveted team participation trophy awarded by the Valero St. Charles United Way Bridge Run. For the past two years, St. Charles Parish Schools has won the trophy. Last year’s school team boasted over 300 participants.

A New Orleans area man, who was staying with a Luling family, was charged with indecent behavior with a juvenile.The St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office arrested John L. Smith III, 60, Metairie, on March 12 after someone witnessed him taking inappropriate photographs of a 6 year-old girl in Monsanto Park.
