As of Aug. 20, 23 horses in St. Charles and surrounding parishes have been infected with Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), according to reports received by state veterinarian Dr. Henry Moreau. This total is more than the entire state saw in 2006.

A Westwego man, who recently moved to Luling and is a convicted sex offender, attempted to lure St. Charles Parish school children into his vehicle while they waited for the school bus on the morning of Aug. 17 on Magnolia Ridge Road in Boutte.
