At the Satellite Center, a handfull of students have the priviledge of participating in the Advanced Television Production Program which utilizes state-of-the-art filming equipment.

Dr. Wade Ragas, retired UNO professor and local real estate expert spoke at the Saints Board of Realtors General Membership meeting on March 23rd at Ormond Country Club.

Dr. Ragas spoke about effects and the recovery of the New Orleans metro area since Hurricane Katrina.

Since 1931, the old Luling Elementary School Building has withstood the test of time, but wind damage from Hurricane Katrina could spell its death knell, as it lost most of its roof.

Destrehan High School has a rich and fascinating history. Official School Board minutes of July 12, 1923 say that 3 1/2 acres of land donated by Mexican Petroleum Corporation [first major industry in St. Charles Parish] went to build the first high school on the east bank.

Katrina, along with destructive winds and catastrophic flooding, brought with her small tornadoes that hit here and there with no rhyme or reason. One such tornado touched down and destroyed the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Ama.

From a crowded field of worthy entrants, the LaBranche Wetland Watchers, an outdoor educational program for Harry Hurst Middle School, won the 2006 National Silver Star, a $10,000 prize.

The east bank water crisis ratcheted up another notch at the parish council meeting on Monday evening. At the meeting, Department of Waterworks Director Robert Brou told members in an impassioned address that C Plant's failure “could happen tonight."

When St. Charles Parish teachers Barry Guillot, Craig Howat and Daniel Martin along with local environmentalist Milton Cambre surveyed the damage from Hurricane Katrina to their proposed site for the region's first public nature trail, they were encouraged by the lack of erosion from the tidal surge.

That is why Dow St. Charles Operations and neighboring companies have partnered with the Louisiana Technical College -- River Parishes Campus to offer an Associate's Degree in Process Technology (PTEC).

Nationwide, along with two other school districts, Superintendent Dr. Rodney Lafon and Director of Public Information Rochelle Cancienne were recognized for their performance during Hurricane Katrina. Winners of the Grace Under Fire Award at the American Association of School Administrators’ (AASA) annual conference, the St. Charles Parish School District receives a $10,000 endowment.
