Sophie Claire Bourgeois was born on Feb. 9, 2007 at 11:58 p.m. She weighed in 7 lbs 9 oz and measured 20 1/2 linches long. She is the daughter of Lindy and Loyd Bourgeois of Luling and joins big brother Preston Nicholas.

New Sarpy kids learn about life in Japan

NEW SARPY - Ms. O'Rourke's first graders (right)and Ms. Miller's third graders at New Sarpy Elementary School have been working together to develop knowledge of our neighboring country, Japan.

With the help of Kuniyo Schmidt, a first grader's mother, who is from Japan, the students learned first hand about the country as they made origami, ate Japanese food, and shared in the learning of Japanese language and games.

Luling's Justin Ward achieved Eagle Scout status and was promoted to assistant Scoutmaster in Eagle Scout Troop 371. Justin, 18, is a junior in high school. He is the son of Paul and Caroline Ward.

Kevin Michael Giroir Jr. was delivered Feb. 12 at 8:04 p.m. to proud parents Kevin Michael Giroir Sr. and Rochelle Lynn Domangue Giroir of Hahnville. Kevin Jr. weighed in at 7 lbs. 5 oz. and was 20 inches long. His siblings are Blair Michael Boquet and Kristin Renee Boquet.
