Destrehan hosted their annual Invitational on April 13. The participating teams, including Destrehan. were East St. John, McMain, Hahnville, Higgins and West St. John.

With the distractions of Summer and Spring, the Hahnville Softball squad still managed to secure their place in the district playoffs. "One challenge that faces me as a coach is keeping the kids focused on softball when Spring is here and it brings on many other activities that seem to take precedent over winning games," said Kenneth Vial, Hahnville’s Head Coach.

The All-District team was announced for area girls' basketball and several girls from Hahnville and Destrehan made the team, an indicator of the success each had this year.

Record crowds came out on April 1 to watch or participate in this year's Valero/United Way Bridge Run/Walk.
Participants were rewarded at the end with fabulous food and drink and live music as well as entertainment for the kids.

This weekend during the Valero's United Way Bridge Run/Walk two familiar faces will be competing in the 70 and over age group, Amelia and Arthur Gassen. At 78 and 81 respectively, these two have climbed Hale Boggs Bridge numerous times, with Arthur winning the event several times.

Spring Recreation Soccer is in full swing and over 100 girls and boys in St. Charles Parish are participating. This pass weekend, three of the teams traveled to Baton Rouge to represent St. Charles Parish in the Red Stick Tournament. Those teams are the U-19 boys-Tornadoes, U-13 boys-United and the U-12 boys- Patriots.

The boys and girl tennis teams at Destrehan High School are expecting some great things this year. Because of Hurricane Katrina, the girls and boys teams have only one team in their district. They are scheduled to play Hahnville on Friday.
|Local girls dominate all-district team

The All-District team was released for girls' soccer and plenty of talent represented the area.
On the first team for Hahnville High School, senior midfielder Rachel Byrd, sophomore midfielder Samantha May, sophomore striker Ashley Eusea, junior goalie Megan Waters and freshman defender Raven Scott were named, with offensive juggernaut, Eusea named offensive MVP for scoring 38 goals this season.

The Don Raymond Relays certainly is a place to find good talent in track and field. High schools from the surrounding areas participated on Friday at Hahnville High School. However, for the Hahnville girls and boys team, winning was not an option but a plan. They both successfully took first place in the Don Raymond Relays.

On March 17, high schools from around the region will descend on Hahnville High School for the Don Raymond Relays. Beginning at 3 p.m., girls and boys will be participating in the track and field event. Throwing events, such as discus and javelin, and field events, such as long jump, start at 3 p.m., with running events beginning at 5 p.m.

The 2006 All-District team was named and several local athletes were standouts on the list.
For Destrehan High School, forward Donald DeLatte, midfielders Justin Weyenberg and Robbie Anderson, defender T.J Favaloro and goalkeeper Chris Tyree were named first team.

Make adjustments not excuses-this is the trademark that can be found rippling through the Destrehan Lady Wildcats softball team. As Coach Russell Shaw enters his second year, he is looking forward to winning district again and another chance at the state title.

Last year, Hahnville's season came to an emotional jolt, losing to St. Paul's in the regionals 4-2. With the disappointing loss, the Tigers finished the season with an overall record of 31-4, an undefeated district season and a district championship. But, as always, they were looking for more.
