The Destrehan Wildcats escaped St. James on Friday with a 10-6 victory, closing out their non-district schedule with a 5-0 record. In order to mirror that record in the second half of the season, the Wildcats will have to go through some tough opponents, including tomorrow's John Ehret Patriots.

Wow! Over 100 deer hunters and business sponsors gathered at Dougie V's Restaurant in Luling for the Deer Food-Plot Seminar hosted by the LSU AgCenter's St. Charles Parish Office. And if you're thinking, dang, I missed it, relax.

The 2006-2007 J.B. Martin Cheerleaders received top awards at the Universal Cheerleading Association’s camp this summer at Southeastern Louisiana University.

St. Augustine will be coming to town on Sept. 29 looking to provide a competitive football game for the Hahnville Tigers. They are coming with one goal in mind, to win. This year is a rebuilding year for the Purple Knights. Hurricane Katrina took their equipment, their coach and displaced most of the team. Their weight room sat under 5 feet of water. They are playing football this year and are having a rough go of it. It will not get any easier tomorrow night.

Last Friday night, the Destrehan Wildcats took down the South Lafourche Tarpons 42-7. The offense scored on all but three of their possessions in their second consecutive victory over a former District 6-5A rival. The Wildcats had the offense running on all cylinders racking up almost 500 yards of total offense.

Who would have thought of it, the New Orleans Saints have won two consecutive road games to start the season for the first time in franchise history. Yes, I know that there are the eternal optimists who feel as though the Saints will win the first two games of every season, but this season was different.

The Destrehan Wildcats came into last Friday night's game on a scoring rampage. The team had scored 82 points in their first two games. Their opponent, the Terrebonne Tigers, had not scored any points in their first two games, and although the Wildcats were unable to keep the Tigers out of the endzone, the game ended with Destrehan taking a lopsided 41-14 victory.

From the outset of the game it was apparent that O. Perry Walker possessed the ability to make the big plays and the quick scores. The Chargers stunned the home crowd, taking just 1:22 to march 57-yards in three plays to become the first regular season team to score against the Tigers this year. Chargers quarterback Larry Young found receiver Tyler Stradford on the first play of the game for a 47-yard pass play. Two plays later Young again went up top, this time to Ronnie Carter for an 11-yard touchdown pass. After Hahnville blocked the extra point the Chargers were up 6-0.

It is just three weeks into the college football season, but one of the most important games of the 2006 season will occur this coming Saturday when the LSU Tigers face the Auburn Tigers.

Hahnville came out on a mission last Friday evening handing their former 6-5A district rivals a 38-point shellacking. The Tigers (2-0 overall, 0-0 5-5A) got off to a shaky start as they won the toss and elected to receive -- only to fumble the kickoff. The defense took the field and forced Central Lafourche to a three and out, and for the second week in a row, the defensive front four found themselves in the opposing teams backfield frequently.

Quarterback Jordan Jefferson threw for 270 yards and four touchdowns in the Walker game, giving him eight touchdown passes in his first two starts. Wildcats cruise into Homecoming week 2-0

The Destrehan Wildcats will take on the Terrebonne Tigers tomorrow at 7 p.m. at home for their homecoming game. Last week, the Wildcats cruised to a 48-28 victory over the O. Perry Walker Chargers.

The Destrehan Wildcats got off to a slow start after a long trip to Alexandria to take on the Trojans, but they recovered in the second half to take a 34-20 victory.

Hahnville's defense stepped up big last Friday night, first by setting up the only score of the game and then by keeping a talented McDonogh squad from reaching the endzone.

It is rare to have two players in the same sport that are considered at the top rung in their particular position, but that is indeed the case with former Destrehan High School and current Baltimore Ravens All-Pro Ed Reed and former Hahnville High School and LSU All-American safety LaRon Landry.

The Colt .45s Baseball team, a select traveling baseball organization from the River Parishes, recently won a Super Series 14-Under National Championship at the Fountain Bluff Sports Complex in Liberty, Missouri.

Hahnville will host the McDonogh 35 Roneagles tomorrow night in the first match up of the 2006 season. Last week Hahnville faced off against the Wildcats of St. James in the Ed Reed Jamboree held in Boutte.
