Miss Little Red Church pageant being held, contestants sought

Destrehan – Applications are being accepted for the fifth annual Miss Little Red Church Food & Fun Festival pageant to be held on May 1. Contestants age 6 months to 23 are invited to enter. The pageant is held along with the Little Red Church Food & Fun Fest held the same weekend. Winners chosen Teen Miss Little Red Church and Miss Little Red Church will be contracted to reign one year and attend various festivals, church and school events. Destrehan Plantation’s annual Spring Heritage Day

DESTREHAN – Destrehan Plantation’s annual Spring Heritage Day is Friday, April 22, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the plantation grounds at 13034 River Road in Destrehan, Louisiana. Students of all ages can learn about the self-sufficient lives of the free and enslaved who lived and worked on the plantation in the 18th and 19th centuries. Admission is $7 per student, teacher and chaperones. School groups are allowed one complementary teacher admission per 25 students. A tour of Destrehan plantation is an additional $5. DESTREHAN – The St. Charles Art Guild will hold their One Day Art Fair on April 21 in the Fellowship Hall of the St. Charles United Methodist Church, 1905 Ormond Blvd. in Destrehan. The fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Based on public requests, the workshop has been created to introduce visual art media techniques as a means of self-expression, and to provide a jump start to adults who may have strayed from a past artistic beginning. Participants will work with watercolors, pastels, collage material and gesture drawings. The cost is $10. Bring a bag lunch. All needed materials will be supplied. Attendance is limited. The St. Charles Parish Library is offering a folk workshop led by a local contemporary folk artist and an electronics workshop for teens during spring break. Hank Holland, a contemporary folk artist from Lockport, will lead the workshops for students in grades four through eight. Everyone who attends will create a unique piece of art to take home. He will appear on March 31 at 10 a.m. at the Hahnville Branch, 14996 River Rd.
