Parents with children in school system best to serve on board
June 11, 2010 at 9:07 am
To the Editor: Qualifying for the St. Charles Parish School Board election will be held on July 7, 8 and 9. We would like to encourage all citizens, especially parents of children currently enrolled in the public school system, to consider qualifying and running for the school board from their respective school board district.

Paper took negative approach when covering the ending of spring festival
March 18, 2010 at 12:22 pm
To the editor:
The article on the front page of the March 11, 2010 St. Charles Herald-Guide contained information on our Spring Heritage Day Events and Civil War Encampment. Instead of representing this as what it is, a positive event, you chose the negative headline of “Destrehan Spring Fest Halted.”

One 3-way stop sign may be down, but many more left to go
July 06, 2009 at 9:12 am
Dear Editor,
I was really pleased to see that Councilman Tastet is going to try to get the illegal stop sign at the intersection of West Heather and Willowdale Boulevard removed.
He did not go far enough.

Dog story should have never made the news
July 06, 2009 at 9:11 am
Dear Editor,
This story should never have appeared in the paper, on TV, or anywhere.

Fill in Airline Highway borrow bit, prevent deaths
June 08, 2009 at 9:20 am
Dear Editor,
I hope each of you had a great Memorial Day weekend. I know one family which did not have a great weekend. Of course I am referring to the Richard family who lost Dorothy on Friday. In the humblest way I would like to address the borrow pit problem and possibly offer a better solution.

Lack of attendance has impact on DHS Baccalaureate ceremony
June 08, 2009 at 9:20 am
Dear Editor,
On Tuesday May 19, Destrehan High School held their Baccalaureate ceremony in the auditorium on campus. The word Baccalaureate is defined as a religious message addressed to a graduating class before commencement day. Faculty, students, and parents put a lot of work into this event and it was a nice celebration. The mantra was from Psalm 37:5, “Commit yourself to the Lord ; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”

Take extra care when crossing railroad
April 30, 2009 at 9:02 am
Dear Editor,
While it’s true that some railroad crossings aren’t as safe as they could be either from inadequate visibility along railroad tracks and/or their not being signalized, there are still ways to minimize the chances of colliding with any train at any such crossing.

Parish teacher crossed the line in custody battle
April 30, 2009 at 9:01 am
Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter because I believe that the people of St. Charles Parish should be informed of what happens when home disagreements spill over into the school.

More doctors needed at hospital
April 08, 2009 at 11:44 am
Editor,
I was pleased to see that the hospital bond issue passed Saturday, but only about 5 percent of registered voters were concerned enough to exercise their duty and privilege to vote. But I’ll bet that in the future many residents will be in the emergency room and be very pleased at what they see.

St. Charles Parish Hospital must continue to evolve
April 01, 2009 at 11:49 am
Dear Editor,
As St. Charles Parish continues to grow, it is imperative that we evolve to meet the changing healthcare needs of our community.

PAYT is the best way to recycle
March 18, 2009 at 2:53 pm
Dear Editor:

Well, I guess I will try one more time to convince the St. Charles Parish officials to consider looking at the possibility of having a PAYT (Pay As You Throw) recycling program.

Socialism is not the way to go
March 04, 2009 at 12:13 pm
To the editor:
What will it take?
With all of the unbelievable U.S. and worldwide economic woes, I am wondering just how long it will take before the Obama Administration and the Democratic-controlled Congress catch on to the fact that Socialism will not work and will only totally ruin our economic system and our country.

Laws not outdated, 4-way stop signs are too plentiful
January 28, 2009 at 12:24 pm
Dear Editor,
I wanted to thank Kim Perret for the compliments she gave me on my recent letter stating the facts concerning 4-way stop signs. Just like Joe Friday says on the TV show, Drag Net, “Just the facts, ma’am. Just the facts.” Well, the fact is that the federal traffic manual, which is used in every state in the union, is not outdated or antiquated.

Take 90 to avoid 4-way stop signs
January 21, 2009 at 11:19 am
Dear Editor,
I’d like to thank Mr. (Cletus) Martin for educating the residents of Mimosa Park on the outdated and antiquated laws of the fine state of Louisiana. And yes, he is absolutely correct in his assertion in the reason behind placing yet another 4-way stop at yet another intersection in St. Charles Parish.

Thanks to ‘hero’ bus driver
January 21, 2009 at 11:19 am
Dear Editor,
First, New York had her “Miracle on the Hudson,” with the world watching as a quick-thinking pilot landed his disabled aircraft.

Stop with the 4-way stop signs
January 14, 2009 at 11:46 am
Editor,
For all those who drive Primrose Dr. in Mimosa Park, you might be seeing another illegal 4-way stop sign if the council passes an ordinance for these illegal signs, as they usually do. The sign will be at the intersection of Primrose and Oak Lane. I see no obstructions or anything else that would warrant a 4-way stop sign.

Dr. Rodney Lafon boiled down his decision to announce his retirement last month to a simple factor. With 40 years accumulated in the school system he had come to a point in his career where he would make nearly the same yearly salary as a retiree as if he chose to continue working.
